OK.. I will not cry...but this reminds me of how much I have compared to some others. Dam my eyes are getting hot. I remember reading somewhere if everyone in the US who makes over $20,000 a year just gave $10 a year they could house everyone in the country. Don't know if that's true but it couldn't hurt. Dam not I'm going to cry.

They give a damn side more then that in taxes, maybe we need to rethink where some of this tax cash is going...

on the upside if you all donated 100 dollars it'd build 78000 homes... that's a pretty big number...

there's 312 million US citizens

We'll assume half the citizens have 20 grand per year because why not. 20 grand isn't much for anyone with stable employment to get...

156 million people x 10 dollars. 1.56 billion dollars.

That's a nice wad of cash. Now how many houses can that buy?

Let's say a house is a million dollars, that's that's 1560 houses. Even if we were cheap and made it half a million per house it's approximately 3120 houses.

That's a lot but it does not fix the poverty problem :\

you could easily build housing for 200,000 a house, were not trying to make luxury houses here

cool beans, let's fix my calculations then

1.56 billion/0.0002 = 7800 homes.

Looks nicer, still not enough though...

What the **** kind of house costs that much? Houses cost like 150,000.
User avatar #473 to #469 - Sethorein (04/30/2013) [-]
to build?
User avatar #476 to #473 - cocorosie (04/30/2013) [-]
With all the foreclosed houses in the US there's no reason to build a new house. Besides, building a house costs around 200,000.

Foreclosures are difficult to work with though, don't they technically belong to banks? How much would a bank charge for you to purchase a house?
User avatar #489 to #480 - cocorosie (04/30/2013) [-]
Here in my city there's a housing authority. It's an agency that works with banks and low income families to sell the family a house for a manageable price. On top of that, foreclosed houses tend to be less expensive because they're just sitting on the market costing the bank money to upkeep.
User avatar #490 to #489 - Sethorein (04/30/2013) [-]
neat, well to add that **** to my estimation I'd need to know how many houses are foreclosed and how much a foreclosed house costs o.o
