My friend is a waitress AND works in a shoe shop because she doesn't earn enough (whilst being in full time education)
So quit your moaning about tips...
I am guessing OP is American, expecting about 25% of the bill as a tip? ffs..

I was initially, but now it's become an expected practice (provided you didn't get shit service) and companies will actually pay waitresses/waiters less knowing they'll get tips. It's a stupid system, my employer doesn't give me a little extra when I report back that an engine is running fine, it's part of my job to make sure it is.
