Well let's see.. ps2, cheapest good console would cost ~40-50 dollars here. Yeah, there were times when I could buy such things, but I decided to buy a PC for 100 dollars who can at least run the internet. Oh, and internet connection costs only 10 dollars per month, which isn't very much. Still, I prefer internet over consoles or TV

Damn, I thought my parents are bad, but you guys have been through some crazy shit. Mine would get me a console or something but only if i did something worth it, like get into a good school or w/e. But I know the feeling of the console getting hidden, they've even taken the cable for the PC :(

We too had to earn the right to buy (with our money!) the PS2, and the right to watch TV and stuff, for example studying for a period of time or reading (luckily I love reading).
Now my sister and I have bought a Wii and some games and want to sell the PS2 but no 2nd-hand shop will buy it.
And I was about to finish "Gun" when my father hid it...
I guess I learned that life is unfair.

The worst part is we had forgot about PS2 and one day he appeared with it in his hands and said it was at the bottom of his wardrobe (and we had searched really really deeply everywhere).

Yeah I guess that was the lesson. I didn't HAVE to study to watch TV but when I would do it for a longer period of time the only thing I ever heard was: Don't you have to go to study? Answer was either no, or I already did to which the response was -Go study more you didn't do anything. Any buts would result in the taking of one of my fav things, PS2, my PC, the TV. Atleast they have never taken away my books and I too love reading. And if I would want something, for example the Wii, I had to pay half of the price with my money for my birthday. T_T

Now I don't use consoles that much, but if I spend too much time with one, I simply stop and go doing some other thing. I guess it worked.

Bleh when I was little I could only play for 1 hour. I could watch my brother play on his PC which was practically the same shit, but I could for 1 hour. Problem is that because I'm 16 she still tries to control me, like I'm done for school and she starts talking bullshit like for example: I doubt you did anything, no computer, go study. What the actual fuck? I'm an A student for fucks sake and not because of them, cause when they make me study I don't do it, I read a book or something. Oh well.....

Yeah, it really sucks. 1 hour, and watching your brother play counts too. Story of my life.

One time my dad caught me playing gamecube in my room waay after bedtime (I was younger at the time) and said he hid it while I was at school that day. I don't think much of it and go about being a kid. Few days later i'm playing with my legos and drop one my the futon in my room, bend down to look under for it, mfw gamecube and controllers were in my room the entire time

My parents were very clever hiding things.
Even today, I don't know most of their hiding places.

Semi-related story: Always asked for game system, but parents always refused to get me one. They finally did, which was nice, but they decided to get a Sega Genesis. This was right around when PS2 first came out. The Genesis was so old by that point that literally the only place I could find games for it was Goodwill because even Gamestop had stopped carrying them. I don't even know where they managed to get the system itself, as I've only seen one other one ever. Was simultaneously the most satisfying and disappointing moment of my life at that point.

I had to work with an AMD Athlon 1800+ machine until a year or so ago.

I was so happy when I got the money to buy a low-budget gaming PC.

Once in a while, it's fun to break out an old computer to see just how shitty it is compared to now.

Broke out my first laptop recently (surprised it still runs, to be honest). Win XP, single core processor and a whopping 23 gigabytes of internal HD space.

I have an AMD sempron 2500+ and Athlon 3000+ system standing behind me, I might find a use for them, eventually.
(I'm working on an AMD Phenom II x6 system now, which is also overclocked)

I have no idea what those are, but that sounds awesome.

Seriously, I love my parents but they had no idea how to buy gifts. Not to sound ungrateful, but I honestly wish they had just saved there money and not bought me the fucking guitar, because by that point I was so sick of piano that the thought of a SECOND instrument just pissed me off. The guitar didn't even work (I had to tune it literally every 15 minutes).

I had almost the exact same childhood. I got my first console earlier this year, and it was a GameCube. Laugh if you want, but I got it for free and I've been playing a bunch of Zelda games, so I count it as a win.
