I agree. I think it has to do with pride parades and stereotypical gay culture. That's the only time gay people have really been shown and focused on in public, and the parades focus on flamboyancy and colors and dildos. I think this sharp contrast with everyday life seeks to alienate gay people from straight people, and many straight people are freaked out by it.

anyone can be taught to believe something, no matter how ignorant or wrong they are. In their twisted perceptions they believe they are helping people and doing the right thing by persecuting them. I have met plenty of people who have said things like, "I support gay rights, I just don't think they should get married." or, "I like gay people, I just don't want them ruining traditional marriage." Years of hearing the same thing from their equally ignorant parents will make them discount any logic or reason thrown at them.

A few major reasons:
1) Many people have a very primitive, caveman-like tribal mindset.
2) People feel that their religion is being violated by the mere presence of gays.
3) Some people are SO uncomfortable with the idea of homosexuality that they irrationally wish it could just cease to exist as a concept.
4) Some people give in to (the actually looney) conspiracy theories that ALL gays want to bugger their children.

At its root, people are still Tribal.

The Tribal mindset is that EVERYONE has to be like you, not just in your immediate area, but EVERYWHERE.

These people are literally too mentally dim to understand the concept of 'Live and Let Live'. They are the sort of people who would kill gays/anyone-else-they-disagree with en masse if they could get away with it.

Yes, it has an effect on our life. Gays have no offspring. But this isn't big enough of a deal for reasonable people to care (unless everybody suddenly turns gay, then we're ******. I'm not saying that'll happen, anyways).
Same as incestous relationships. If they're legalized tomorrow, their children would come out retarded or something.

I feel like that argument doesn't hold up.

The book of Leviticus says gay sex is a sin, yes, but it also says that eating shellfish and wearing clothes made from two different cloth.

Some people use the Bible to justify their hatred but if their religion is where they are getting their morals then they'd be against all kinds of arbitrary things.

Instead they focus on the one which is most convenient for them since it involves someone else and doesn't require them to modify their own behaviour.

I'd argue that religion isn't a problem at all, rather it is the religious people that are the problem. Religion is essentially just a set of rules to live your life by much like the laws that we live by. They are not inherently bad but just as the law can be abused, so can a belief system. The problem with a belief system is that it is so fundamental to people's existences that most of the time they will always consider themselves in the right, meaning they are very hard to change indeed to the point where even the pope (who is considered to be the legate of god's will on earth) was spoken out against publicly for his progressive policies.

Religion isn't a bad thing as it brings culture, art, kindness and devotion to the world in many different ways and it is proof that even the religions that are fundamentally based in cruelty (like Islam, for example) can change when the religious people are not horrible people (i.e. progressive muslim communities that don't support jihad.)

So it's not pointless, it's just horribly abused and misused in today's culture as a means of justification, which it isn't.

Because they believe they are right in their ways, and that theirs is the only way to salvation.

Not all people are like this, and very few religions actually condone that kind of discrimination. But we've all met someone, and we all know who we're talking about.

All right, I'm doing this anonymously because I know to reaction will be bad.

In high school, there were these two fraternal twins that were adopted by gay guys. Coolio. Here's the thing:
They were BOTH the gayest people I had ever met. Cut-off shorts (so high their asses were showing), neon clothes and one was even caught making out with some other guy in the locker rooms.

Maybe... just maybe... their gay parents had something to do with it?

That could be possible... I don't know what happened to them after high school.
Maybe they were just copying mannerisms. Children do tend to idolize and even imitate their parents.
Maybe, they were trying to make their gay parents happy? As in, they thought that their parents had wanted them gay. Anything is possible.
I never thought of it that way, thank you.
