With Bethesda sounding like they may be hard at work with
a potential Fallout A, they' re not the only studio with a
penchant for the apocalypse - developers have
gone on the record stating they' d love to continue their
collaboration with Bethesda Softworks, and make a sequel to
Fallout: New Vegas.

Obsidian making a fallout 4 spin-off is something that I really wish for.

Say what you must about New Vegas, I enjoyed the content better than Fallout 3. Especially the DLCs, and how they're connected to each other.

Oh **** dead money. I was always a FO3 kinda guy, but started getting into NV after buying it on steam. I finished the main story and decided i was high enough level to play dead money. I've never been so ******* angry at a game in my life. And after wrestling with thoughts of suicide for a few hours, i finally got to the vault, only for me to unwittingly chose the wrong option, and get my character locked in the vault. That was it. Game over, thanks for playing. Haven't started up NV since. **** DEAD MONEY.

I'm sorry man, I just can't see that much good in it besides Joshua, The Survivalist, and the general atmosphere. Most of the locations on your map lead to uninteresting places, there are hardly any quests, you learn very little about the tribes, and you can't even side with the pro-Caesar tribe if you're doing a Caesar run. There really isn't much, like you said.

Less broken up buildings, more intact internals and no raider bases all over the place. Ghouls and super mutants turn into chinese sodliers and deathclaws are ************ forms of power armor.

And that's why Fallout 1&2 world map worked. It was literally a huge wasteland with nothing in it but a few hostile/random encounters and junk, and a few points of interest i.e. locations where most of the game took place. I grew up in the Northeast so the revolutionary themed New England was so much more enjoyable to me than the Wild West of NV. But that personal preference.
User avatar #54 to #52 - TheMather ONLINE (11/20/2015) [-]
That theme only really applies to the Minutemen and a few individual locations though, while the rest lacks any theme at all.
Whereas in New Vegas, it was almost all cowboys, train robbers and revolvers. They didn't just establish a theme at the start; they stuck with it all the way through.
User avatar #23 to #11 - thechosentroll (11/19/2015) [-]
What was so great in 4 that wasn't in NV? Cause you'd think that after 7 years of development, they'd add a bit more than just a suit of power armor that turns the game into an FPS, because you are now nigh unkillable and an Assassins' Creed-style base, where you can spend money and resources in order to produce even more money and resources, which you can spend on your base in order to produce even MORE money and resources.
#36 to #23 - figatron ONLINE (11/20/2015) [-]
What should they have added then? I can't complain that they made it into an FPS by making combat better. I can't think of any huge RPG element thats really missing. Maybe more cities to visit or quests to do but I haven't seen the whole map so I don't know if there are.
User avatar #38 to #36 - thechosentroll (11/20/2015) [-]
They got rid of skills and reloading benches, as well as significantly dumbing down the dialogue system. They not only didn't add much, they took stuff away from the game to make it simpler and more FPS-like, so it appeals to a broader demographic.

Also, Fallout is an RPG with FPS elements. They made 4 an FPS with RPG elements.
#47 to #38 - thefallenlord (11/20/2015) [-]
I would correct you there (yes I am that kind of petty asshole)
Fallout is an RPG... not RPG with FPS elements, not FPS with RPG elements, it's RPG period.
BETHESDA'S Borderla... I mean Fallout is this hideous hybrid of FPS / RPG that doesn't really gel well together.

I mean RPGs in general are about characters, you mold and shape said characters via dialogues, choices, skills and stats, that's why a lot of older RPGs have quite visually unappealing and mechanically simplistic combat, because it's supposed to be determined solely on your character's skills, not the player's and while a lot of gamers don't like it (and I don't blame you) it's what some of us like (mainly those of us who play Fallout 2 as a palate cleanser after 20 hours of Fallout 4).
So when Bethesda is turning YET ANOTHER RPG GENRE into a ******* Destiny crossbred with Minecraft that's wearing Fallout's flayed skin to cover its disfigured and mutated "body" I want to throw **** and scream "THIS AIN'T FALLOUT YOU DICKS!"

I think I finally understand the bitterness, rage and disappointment of Final Fantasy fans...
User avatar #106 to #47 - thechosentroll (11/20/2015) [-]
To be fair, 3 and NV had SOME FPS elements. Like the ability to miss, because you're panicing and shooting in random directions.
User avatar #85 to #47 - nebuchadnezzaurus (11/20/2015) [-]
Tell me why do people who like Fallout 2 never say anything about Fallout 1, like it never existed? I mean besides the baby duck syndrome where you played F2 first and that's why you prefer it over F1. What actual things do you like about F2 better than F1?
I am the exact opposite, I played F1 and I like it better than F2, despite finishing the latter (once). I recognize I may be biased by that same "imprinting" bias, but I do have some legitimate criticisms. I do intend to replay it though, because obviously I couldn't catch nearly as much stuff as possible on my first go.
User avatar #107 to #85 - thefallenlord (11/20/2015) [-]
For me it's 100% personal preference. I don't like the fact that I'm on the clock in Fallout 1, but I must admit, writing in the first one was slightly better and it wasn't so chock full of random references and lol-so-random moments. I also like heavy sexual undertones of Fallout 2 (New Reno prostitutes anyone?)
User avatar #109 to #107 - nebuchadnezzaurus (11/20/2015) [-]
Yeah the constant pop culture references were a bit annoying too. Tim Cain (the original creator of Fallout and the director of F1) addressed the references thing in his post mortem of the game at GDC.
For F1, basically it went like this: if somebody in the team wanted to make a reference to their favorite show or book or whatever, that reference had to make sense even to somebody who doesn't "get it". I.e. it had to be subtle. For example there was a perk called "Slayer" that makes you roll crits more often. Actually if was a reference to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the TV show, but the name of the perk still made perfect sense even if you didn't know about the show. I guess this sensible approach was abandoned in F2.
User avatar #111 to #109 - thefallenlord (11/21/2015) [-]
Even Chris Avellone said that they went full ballistic in Fallout 2 and it was to the detriment of the game itself, but some people really liked it. That's why New Vegas had "Wild Wasteland" trait which was supposed to be more like Fallout 2 in the amount of wackiness while main game was to be more grounded in "reality".
User avatar #61 to #47 - keatontheghostfox ONLINE (11/20/2015) [-]
So they made a game with actual good controls and gameplay mechanics. Honestly I liked the old speach system better, and I wish there were more guns (preferably more guns based on real life weapons) but the game controls much better than falloit 3 IMO.
User avatar #63 to #61 - thefallenlord (11/20/2015) [-]
>Good controls? Yes
>Gameplay mechanics? No
While I admit that it's purely subjective, I consider mechanics of this shooty Fallout to be uninteresting, dry, repetitive and frankly boring. It's Borderlands with less guns, It's Destiny but not **** , It's FireFall but not MMO.... Not to mention the sheer amount of content that is focused solely on killing stuff. Where are all the interesting non-combat quests? My guess would be dead in a ditch along with the dialogue system that would have to be there to support them.
User avatar #108 to #63 - keatontheghostfox ONLINE (11/20/2015) [-]

#20 to #19 - figatron ONLINE (11/19/2015) [-]

#16 to #13 - figatron ONLINE (11/19/2015) [-]
to me they basically did everything to fallout 3 and 4 that Skyrim did to Oblivion. I preferred the setting and story of the former but the way they cleaned up the combat system, leveling, crafting, and other systems, it almost made the former unplayable by comparison. Though as someone who was raised in the Northeast I was satisfied with the setting more than the Mojave. And as a Yankee, nuking fenway with a fatman and shooting anyone with a Bostonian accent was amazingly satisfying.
User avatar #17 to #13 - mortolife ONLINE (11/19/2015) [-]
Which I don't understand. While I did really enjoy NV, the Mojave was one of the most boring and ugly wastelands I've ever explored. The biggest thing about Fallout 4 was that I saw Bethesda actually attempt to give a **** about the lore. The Brotherhood of Steel started having their original ideas back, there were actually factions this time with them, the power armor seemed closer to lore, the nuclear storms were really cool, and adding other 50's themes (atom cats) made it good.

I'm not saying praise them, but hopefully they might get close or actually on the lore and game of Fallout. But I need my ******* Enclave in great form back and to leave the ******* aliens silly **** out as much. to be fair the aliens didn't really do anything to us, they if you go by mothership zeta just took a bunch of us and planned to invade then we ****** ourselves up.

But yeah I'm assuming the DLC are gonna be great, probably.

If they can put Freddy and Jason into Mortal Kombat, I don't see why this glorious crossover can't happen.
I'm not sure if I'm being serious or sarcastic right now

I'd love to see more of the Enclave. Most importantly I'd love for ED-E to pop up in said Enclave centric DLC.

it'd be swell

Objectively I'd say so far 19 hours in it sure seems like Fallout 4 will be better than New Vegas. However, in a completely subjective and nostalgic way it will never compare to how I feel about New Vegas.

I love Bethesda they make great games, but Obsidian just has the upper hand when it comes to making a Fallout game. The writers for Obsidian consist of some pissed off ex-Bioware employees and Bioware stories are ******* fantastic and the old crew from Interplay/Black Isle. The reason Fallout New Vegas was so chalk full of references to the older games is because they were written and developed by some of the people who worked on the old games. I'd love to see a New Vegas sequel, but given the nature of NV's multiple endings, it would take them a lot of work to pump out a game consistent with the decisions made in the first installation.

Dear Bethesda,
Your games are awesome. The story, theme, and gameplay are all industry leading.
But for the love of all that is holy... Make a new game engine! Creation Engine is ******* old ass **** and is dragging Fallout 4 down. Quite simply the game looks five years older than it is. I'd say it's unacceptable but the gameplay makes it acceptable. Still, though. I'm disappointed.
Sincerely,
Anyone WIth Eyes.

As much as I'm loving Fallout 4, I will concede that Obsidian are likely to make a much, much better version.
