Random funny story that no one is gonna read:
I went to a residential highschool basically for weird people, and as such had a very weird friend that I'm gonna call B. Junior year I was moving in and my dad, who is a programmer, was helping me build my loft.
B walks in the room and says, "you're doing that wrong." And my dad, not wanting to deal with him just says, "don't worry, I'm a carpenter." So B figures he must know what he's doing, and just leaves.
A while down the road, B mentions my dad being a carpenter, and I tell him, "no.... my dad is programmer." So then it became a running joke that whenever B saw my dad he would dramatically point and shout at the top of his lungs, "YOU'RE NOT A CARPENTER!!!!!!". It did not matter when or where, it was unfailing, and my dad hates that kid to this day.

When you fast travel to the co-op or away from the co-op, he usually disappears. It's a reported bug, unfortunately.
