I thought I loved that dog too
Then I ended up beating him to near death repeatedly so I could stab him with needles to make Curie love me
Such is romance

>get Dogmeat
>first encounter with him is the first deathclaw encounter in the game
>he immediately runs up to the Deathclaw and goes down
>[Dogmeat needs a Stimpak!]
>tell Dogmeat to **** off immediately after that encounter is finished

I don't need such dead weight with me, I don't understand why people bring him along when much better companions exist.
#88 to #78 - anon (12/22/2015) [-]
Dogmeat can hold a lot of items, plus, he doesn't count as a companion for the lone wanderer perk... So that's why I like him. I can carry more **** than I could with any other companion.

Also he's a cute lil doggy woof woof.
User avatar #80 to #78 - wrpen (12/21/2015) [-]
Nostalgia factor, he's the first companion you find, challenge runs, meme value, and if Bethesda is anywhere smarter than medically retarded, they left in his ability to bring you items.

Plus a lot of people got stockholm syndrome over invincible dogmeat in 3.

he can bring you items. it's an easy way to get one of the best early game items.

still not as good as the black dog from 2.

always begin putting your points into armor and weapon building. it may seem useless at first, but when you get to higher levels, you will pat yourself on the back when you are able to take on a mythic deathclaw with a quad barrel homing missle launcher

If youre going for a melee build, always invest in heavy arnor and heavy melee weapons, you wont be able to do **** if you die before you get to the first guy

also, always have at least 3 different kinds of weapons you use often, you never know when you might need them

always try to get your charisma and perception to the maximum, more caps in pocket mean more things you can buy, and more junk you can aquire, perception so you can tell where your enemies are

also dont rush through the story, you will miss a lot of content

Theres a deathtrap maze somewhere near med-tek in a parking garage. find the entrance from street level I think.

Way to the southwest is a deathclaw sanctuary of sorts, its north of the edge of the glowing sea on the farthest west part of the map. It is near a power plant of sorts, look for the giant metal telephone structures.

To the south of the island settlement in the southeast, there is a lighthouse, go east of that and you will find pipelines that have no purpose, and may be part of a future DLC.

In sanctuary behind one of the houses is a small basement storm cellar door, some goodies inside.

There is a secret area, I forget what it is called but it is somewhere in the eastern part of the city, it is guarded by a cieling turret outside, go through the building all the way to the top, and you fight a sentry bot and an assaultron. Kill them, press the buttons from the two rooms, and you get a full set of power armor, I think it was an X-01 set.

I know there are others but cant remember right now.

>>#10, Sounds like my loadout. Two-shot combat shotty the accuracy on those is absolutely horrendous. 12 accuracy? Seriously? You can be at point blank range and still miss with some of the pellets. Can't argue with the damage output, though , The Last Minute for long sniping and just raw power, .308 Overseer's Guardian for mid range sniping, modded-out .45 Combat Rifle for close range sniping, and an advanced receiver, short-barrel 10mm pistol I haven't been able to convince myself to get rid of in favor of the .44 yet.

All in all, having lots of guns pays off. You lose loot space but you're much better prepared.

Lately been using a Tactical Overcharged Automatic Laser Rifle, too, with the improved Automatic barrel, since Laser Rifles are just so light. I'm still skeptical of automatic guns, but energy weapons are definitely okay automatics. Most of my weapon choices are driven by ammo; while I certainly have enough Plasma cartridges, .44 rounds, and 2mm EC rounds to use the appropriate (and more powerful) weapons for a long while, I prefer to have lots of rounds in surplus before I make a weapon part of my main arsenal. Even The Last Minute is more of a specialist weapon for me right now, since it generally only takes one shot to get the job done anyway. Therefore, I've stuck with the more common types for my mainline; .308, .45, 10mm, and Fusion Cells.

Of course I'll pull out the big guns when the job calls for it (Exterminator's Missile Launcher made wonderfully quick work of the Mirelurk Queen when I took back the Castle, for instance), but I generally prepare my trips out into the Wasteland well enough that I don't need to carry them around all the time; I'll know whether I need it or not. And if something comes up where I usually would like to have a bigger gun.... I just shoot more. Never seems to fail. Pop some Psycho and Med-X if **** gets really hairy but those situations are few and far between. Usually, it's nothing a little stealth and firepower can't handle.

One thing your arsenal can never have enough of, just in case you've overlooked them; grenades. Can't stress enough how effective they are in Fallout 4. Maybe it's a bug, or they need to be re-balanced or something but they are currently deadly effective. Even just frag grenades have been useful for me up into the 50s level range, paired with Demolition Expert ranks. Get your hands on a steady supply of Nuka Grenades or Plasma? You're set, man. Enjoy turning the Wasteland to a chunky red paste. Mines are not quite as effective as their damage doesn't seem to scale with Demolitions Expert (or perhaps it does and that just isn't displayed properly) but they're valuable in their own right. A crippled leg can make all the difference in a fight, and minefields are a powerful tactical tool.
#73 to #11 - nerdking (12/21/2015) [-]
Damn, that's pretty snazzy. I've got a pretty fantastic loadout, all with funny names. Firstoff, there's good ol' Kellog's Revolver (Rechristened 'Sanitary Harry'), handy for getting back my AP and looking like a badass doing it. Then I've got Smaug, myfully modded combat shotgun that does 25 points of burn damage per shot. It's a wonderful thing, 125 base damage, plus the 25 burn. After that is the second most disgusting weapon I've got, the Heavenly Chorus, formerly the spray and pray. It's a submachine gun that fires explosive bullets that deal 35 base damage, plus a fifteen damage AoE burst. Tears through alpha deathclaws like they're made of Blamco Mac and Cheese. Lastly, Righteous Authority, to build up them crits.

I should really start toning down on playing Fallout 4. Sometimes it consumes my whole day when I have **** to do. Worst part is when I play to very late in the day afterwards my brain is still tangled about it when I stopped, when I go to bed I can't sleep because all that's happening in my dreams is me endlessly going through item menu's with the same droning songs from the radio playing in my head or little **** I still have to do ingame constantly ringing in my brain, it's like one of those nightmares that isn't scary but mentally torturing like those where you're endlessly falling. This game never really interested me, did I play it wrong? I started out first day, and the game was bugged beyond reason, I could not make a male character, after 3 different times I still got stuck in the floor, not until I make a female character did it work, after that I never really grew to care that my husband was shot in the head or that my son was gone, the quests near the beginning seemed kinda boring to me as it consisted of, " check this site out for me, escort these people, clear out bandit camp 374947". The story never held my attention because I never grew to care for my son or any companion, even dogmeat just seemed to hinder the game play by being an annoyance. The town building was like SimCity which was interesting at first but the fun didn't last long and it started to see like more of a chore than anything. So did I play wrong or something? Because I'm not seeing the reason for the hype.
User avatar #55 to #51 - xgeneration (12/21/2015) [-]

User avatar #68 to #59 - kibuza ONLINE (12/21/2015) [-]
You asked if you played it properly and if it was a good game, and that is entirely subjective.
Yea, I personally think it's a good game. Plenty of people think it's a bad game.

You said you've beaten the game so obviously you weren't playing it 'wrong'. You had a TV or monitor some kind of console or PC to play it and some kind of controller or M&K right? That's pretty much all you need to play it properly.

If you found it mediocre then maybe Fallout 4 is not your kind of game.

User avatar #83 to #77 - kibuza ONLINE (12/22/2015) [-]
Are you retarded? My first comment was basically saying that to ask for someone's opinion on whether something is good or not on something you yourself have played is pointless, and then the one you replied to answered both questions.

No. He beat the game, so he was not playing it wrong.
Yes. I do think it's good, but that's irrelevant. Just because I like it doesn't mean you will. Hence the LoL example.

It's the same thing as if I were to ask you "Hey, I think I might be eating this burger wrong because it tastes like **** , what do you think?" Guess what? It doesn't matter what you think. If you tell me it's a good burger I'm not suddenly going to find out that it's a good burger. I already ate it and formed my own opinion on it, rather than try to adjust my opinion to fit with the majority of other peoples'.

You're clearly mad about something. Maybe you're drunk, maybe your partner just left you. To be honest I really don't give a **** , but maybe you should return and pass 4th grade reading comprehension before you start complaining about things you obviously didn't understand.

On the topic of companions, does anyone have a problem with Preston Garvey? He doesn't really bother me, but every time a fight breaks out, I swear to god, he shoots me right in the face. I ran with him for a little bit at the beginning of the game, and he killed me six times in the span of a couple hours. It was the most infuriating thing. We'd be fighting raiders in Lexington and he's all "Oh, hey Sole Survivor, you know what you need? A shot in the head from a six-crank laser musket,"

There are three dog houses in Sanctuary, if you have not scrapped them, he will be sitting in one of them. One is behind the blue house on the left side of the "main road", one is well hidden behind the house on the far end of the roundabout, and one is at the river side of the first (or second?) house to the right (turn right immediately after coming over the bridge).
Check these three, scrap them all and construct a dog house right next to wherever you placed your "Welcome Home" doormat (which lets you pick which exact place you land when you fast travel).
In the end, he might simply be patrolling or the game might have swallowed him. If you really can“t find him, reload and try again.
Best of luck!
