I think Boone's sniper shoots lightning. I've tried opening his inventory to take his rifle and try it out but such luck. His reaction is also superior to mine. Did you ever follow that thug thats in Freeside into the alley where he and 2 friends try to jump you? I did, Boone dropped all 3 of them before I could even draw my weapon...

I just needed to know what grab button you use. I play on console also. Anyway, in freeside, the area around vegas, go to inner freeside (through a blue door) and look for a place called the Silver Rush. Go inside and you'll find some weapons on the counter. Press the right stick in to pick up the guns and ammo then drag them to the bathroom in the back. Sneak using the left stick and you can get them for free. There's a rare-ish multiplas rifle and another rare-ish plasma caster (which is a heavy weapon btw) on the table also, but in poor condition. There's ammo on the shelves too, so be sure to pick those up.

In Mick and Ralph's in Freeside talk to Mick about "specialty items" and but the Naughty Nightwear from him. It gives you +1 luck, which really helps you in casinos. Once you get around 3000 caps, look up a place called the new vegas medical clinic, which is somewhere in the areas around freeside. Talk to the main doctor and ask about implants. Buy the luck one, permanately increasing your luck by one, giving you 7 luck if you equip the nightwear. Go to casinos and ONLY PLAY BLACKJACK. You can easily win most of the time, and you can bankrupt all the casinos, which gives you around 20-30k caps per casino. You also get small prizes once you reach a certain amount of caps in the casino, such as a hotel room you can keep forever, giving you free safe storage.

is 6 luck enough then?

It does help somewhat, but not enough to really bankrupt casinos. Try your luck to see what happens and if you start losing caps, just stop. You could always use that one perk you get early on, where it has the pictyure of the vault boy lifting weights and lets you increase one special stat, but most people consider it a waste of a perk, including myself. I would recommend just saving up until you can buy it. Try going to vault 34 (you WILL need a guide for this, I didn't use one and it took me FOREVER) to get the things in the armory. Its a hard vault, but in the armory you can find a large stash of ammunition and weapons, including two sniper rifles, a missile launcher, a minigun, three blocks of C-4, three assault carbines, two grenade launchers, one Marksman carbine, and a riot shotgun, plus two unique weapons (the pulse gun, which is very effective against robots, turrets, power armors, etc. and the all-american, a unique marksman carbine.) You can sell a lot of the weapons to get you to 3000 caps, and you get two unique weapons out of it!

Another thing, to get to vegas, go down and back up, like a U shape. Go from goodsprings down to primm, stop at the mojave outpost if you want (very bottom left with two big statues on a hill, can't miss it) then right through nipton and this is probably when you start to curve upward, to the north. You're going to pass a ranger outpost and get to novac, the town with a big dinosaur statue. go up to the 188 outpost the go WEST, and just towards the big clump of roads to the west. hug the cement wall and eventually you'll find one of the entrances to freeside.

If you go back into the Doc's house (who you met in the beginning) you'll find a laser pistol either on him or on a shelf in the main room branching off from the living room, with the couch and such.

It's just a laser pistol, but I guess it's pretty good compared to the small little pistols you get in the beginning.
