1 is also wrong. You do multiplication first.

7 - 4 + 3 x 0 + 1
3 x 0 = 0
7 - 4 + 0 + 1
7 - 4 = 3
3 + 1 = 4

Answer is 4.

Don't you add before you subtract. Wouldn't that make the answer two?

7 - 4 + 3 x 0 + 1
3 x 0 = 0
7 - 4 + 1
7 - 5 = 2

No. With BEDMAS...

you go left to right

So you could kind of group it as B,E,(D,M),(A,S) and you go left to right with the division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction.

Oh I knew that aha, some people just got to do Bedmas (Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Adding, Subtracting) Neither of the 2 names is me =D

Some people just don't understand math XD

Makes me wonder how these people survive at all. Even besides the fact that you need at least up to algebra in order to get a diploma, you use math all the time. Even if you used as little math as possible, you would still need it for things like knowing how much change you should get back or knowing whether you should buy in bulk (legit story time: I saw a store that sold single cans of soda for 50 cents and sold 12-can cases for $7. It was actually cheaper to buy individual cans.)...

Aha Marketing at it's worst!! But I hear you on that I'm in math 30 IB and Physics 30 and some people just wouldn't be able to survive in those classes without the basics of algebra.

Well actually it's pretty smart. Most people assume that buying in bulk is always cheaper, when clearly it isn't. I've seen a few cases (mostly with liquid products) where it's cheaper to buy smaller sizes.

Saw it with detergent a few times. A one gallon jug cost more than two half-gallon jugs.

Yahhh, but hopefuly people can do the math in their head and notice that they're not gettin ripped off from so much money

Psh. If you can't do simple math then you deserve to be ripped off imo. Math is everywhere. If you can't even handle knowing what order to do operations in then you have failed miserably as a human.

Unless, you know, you have some sort of excuse as to why you don't know that. Then you get a pass on this. But if your mental facilities are functioning such that knowing order of operations is possible, you should know it.

wait BEDMAS PEMDAS however you call it
7-4+3x0+1
7-4+1
7-5
=2 ? if addition comes before subtraction then 7-4+1 would be 7-5 not 3+1
argument invalid

That's not how it works. You do paranthesises first, then multiplication and division second, and then you go from left to right.

How can people be this ignorant? It's simple math...

The order wasn't even the problem. With addition and subtraction order doesn't matter, that left to right thing is just so that dumber people don't have to struggle with the idea that order is irrelevant.

Your real mistake is thinking that -4+1 is -5. -4+1 is -3. You could still do the problem in that order, which would give you 7-3, then still 4.

multiplying and dividing are on the same and then next step is adding and subtraction which are on the same level so you read left to right
7-4+3x0+1
7-4+1
3+1
4
anon is right
