African American descent? Political correctness is making people stupid.

Mmm... hmmm...
African-American is actually more than correct in this situation. The reason it's politically correct is because black people have made it so that everything but the scientific designation for a person of African descent in the Americas is racist.

But African-American is more correct. You see, African-Americans have features distinct from other people of African descent. There are differences in the facial structure of Italians and Frenchmen, who share a border, so there will definitely be noticeable differences in the facial structures of people of African descent whose families have spent the last 200 years on the other side of the Atlantic, and the facial features of people living in Africa.

Several hundred years is not nearly enough time to create distinguishable facial differences from other Africans. Those kinds of changes require hundreds of thousands of years. And at any rate, it is far more likely that the author mistakenly used the politically correct term in his country.

Don't forget that slaves didn't come to America from just one location, but from basically all over the continent, which would significantly increase the speed of variation as there was no need to wait thousands of years for a mutation before "new" facial types started to mix.

Umm... No. The variation necessary for African-Americans to be noticeably different happened in such a short time because there was no wait for mutations. Different features were brought together by the slave trade, and then the screwing commenced.

Exactly. Interracial mixing occurred and obscured the different lineages, which means there is no singular "African American" genetic footprint. The post is seeking to identify very specific evolutionary features. What you are discussing is much more immediate. Again, it is more likely the author mistakenly used the PC term.

Interracial? Dude, I'm talking about Africans from the Cape gettin' it on with Africans from Mali. All still Africans, but with slightly differing features when arriving in America due to the place of origin, mixing these features and creating a new subset of African; the American African.
