I'm currently in a campaign as a player (I usually DM), and I'm the avid roleplayer of the group. In this campaign I'm playing as an inventor/tinkerer who's recruiting every single shopkeeper and enchanter into an order that he's starting up (which may or may not be a scam), whilst introducing firearms and active weapons (many of which are inspired by Bloodborne's trick weapons), all the while the other players kind of just.. Go along with the waves.

Pic related, it's my character with the party goliath barbarian, slogging on about a new idea. It's my first real attempt at drawing something in Photoshop, I'm usually more of a pixel-art person. Despite the obvious flaws, I was pretty happy with how it turned out, thought I might as well share it.

Was wondering though, how do you guys handle an vivid, sometimes hyper-active roleplayer while the rest isn't, or are powerplaying instead? Do you think it hinders play, or that they hog the spotlight? I understand it gets annoying at times, when they (myself included) get into the swing and just don't shut up for the next 30 minutes.

If this happens, try to come up with some event requiring RP from both the heavy RPer and someone else, but requiring the other person to do about 90% of it. It works because the rollplayer can (and almost always will) compensate and try to do more, so in the end it looks like they did about the same amount. It is really hard to do, but it works well. and gets the players to RP some more.

So I've been trying to get into a table top rps but I have only played once and can't seem to find anyone else to play with. Any suggestions or ideas on how to learn more or find people that would like to play?

I wish I did buddy, I lucked out with several groups that I DM in. I've never had the need to find a forum or group to find players (not that there would be, my country does not have as young a culture as America does).

All I can tell you is just to visit tabletop rpg boards, ask around, hope to find something but put yourself out there. It'll enrich your life forreal, in my opinion, there's no experience like sitting down with friends or strangers and unleashing the mind, so to speak. Plus, you know, gets you out of the house and stuff like that.

My main experience with DMing comes from a club that I lead in year 11, where I taught year 7s tabletop games. Thing things those kids came up with, it was honestly better than most campaigns I've had since then. They were naturally less role-play and more in it for the laughs, so when someone came in and started rollplaying, they were pretty uncomfortable. I think we dealt best with it by finding a middle ground, so I mixed in more roleplaying with the action, which they enjoyed once they got used to it. I think it just takes time.

On a side note, it was this group that came up with the running joke "+1 projectile ranger" for quite literally throwing their halfling ranger at things till the things died.

Depending on how long each session is, taking 30 minutes at one point just for a rant could earn the ire of the team.

Sessions can last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours, but I can definitely see what you mean.

If your honestly asking, the usual reaction is just to let you get on with it. If you start going overboard your gonna end up greentext story where we all **** you up as a party. Cuz **** gets annoying if you milk it like a mad cunt.
