ii . g iill! There' s been all sorts of talk about making Paladins hall. In my campaign, I was no stranger to attempts.

Go on.

What happened when there was a choice of letting an innocent man accused of murder (via possession) die or let the victim' s family never get ? I took a third option and hunted down that
******* demon haunting his dreams, brought it back and manifested it into reality, and brought IT to court-
What happened when there was a choice between slaying an entire barbarian clan for "vengeance" or leaving a corrupt captain pretending to be a martyr of beliefs in charge ofa fort? I
took a third option and Smite Evie' d the captain' s ass in public, letting everyone in public see he wasn' t the pure good bastion he pretended to be, leaving him to the machinations of the people who
new realized they' d been decieved-
Several other times. --I think five, total- Five times, I was shoehorned into a situation to choose between what' s , and every time I picked a third option. The ' s was
a , and every time we met she would always talk about how I was going to fall, like he did, and it was an every time, I told her that there is never an inevitability of evil.
There is -
If I' m pushed into a situation where I need to choose between the lesser of two evils, I refuse those conditions and] refuse to even consider them. You do not tear things apart, spread your own misery
across the land, and then ask me to abide by your rules and your options. No, that is not how I play your ******* game.
CI Anonymous (( leled) 14: 48
So what happens when we finally meet the BEES?
The does her usual "darkness is inevitable, everyone is doomed. etc etc" rant, and I shut her off right there. Despite all of the temptations, despite all ofthe problems, I never once
fell- Never once. Despite all ofthe problems the BEES had spread across the land and despite all his forces, we never once failed- Never once.
Darkness was never inevitable, and no amount of dismissing even the tiniest problem would keep it from staring them in the ******* face- He wanted to talk about how he expected us and how we
were amusing and other such condenscending ******** . but despite all of his smugness never once did he incorporate any prevention for this "amusing problem" into his plan.
And you know what?
Instead of the usual torrents M" You fool?’ or "This is true powere" or "You struggle against the inevitable?', the Blackguard believed it. She ******* believed it.
She went down on her ******* knees, right in front of her master, and said she wanted no longer to be against us. That I had demonstrated that honor existed. even in darkness, and that even in a
world interruption and grey morality, there can still be heroism.
Never once dial fall, and what did the GM do? Rather than continue. he just gave up and rewarded me. Instead to try and shoehorn me into situations. the GM converted one of the
biggest lieutenants of evil to our side and put me in charge of guiding her along the path of redemption.

Unrelated topic

I always thought that Paladins should get another subclass if they commit a seriously unlawful but good action

Like a neutral/chaotic good paladin that decided " **** it, I'm not a lawyer, I have a ******* sword"

There's also Gray Guards from Forgotten Realms who fit this to a tee.
Which frankly the whole "smite evil in public thing, then let him face the mob" thing would kinda fall under. Mob rule isn't really justice.

It wasn't mob rule, though. Not really, anyway. It was democracy at its core.

That would be up to you, a paladin is the most righteous warrior of the land, that does not mean they must show mercy, or even be remotely nice.
User avatar #8 to #7 - ubercookieboy (06/12/2015) [-]
Yes but they must always follow the law

Paladins by default are always lawful good
User avatar #12 to #8 - warbob (06/12/2015) [-]
if you play by that rule yes.

But there is a difference between following the law set by the locals and following the law of JUSTICE. Sometimes the law itself is unjustified and as long as your own morals scream there is more justice to be had you are free to deliver it as justice itself.

You do not answear to any mortal , your only judge is/are the god/gods you serve. And if their justice is incompatible with yours , well then you become and oathbreaker (class in 5e)

No, Paladins answer to authority
User avatar #16 to #15 - dierdred (06/13/2015) [-]
It depends on how you play it, If the paladin you play views laws that are made by man to be justice, he will follow them

But then you have the paladins that believe that the laws made by man are not always just, he will follow those that he believes to be just, and not those that he sees as unjust.

On authority, they can answer to the authority of man; government officials, police, etc
or the authority of god, they will only answer to the authority of their diety and follow the morals of the diety they chose, rather than the laws of man. Paladins are simple yet complex.
User avatar #17 to #16 - ubercookieboy (06/13/2015) [-]
What if the paladin is following a code of conduct from a group he is part of?
User avatar #18 to #17 - dierdred (06/13/2015) [-]
That...doesnt really work, because a paladin follows either the code of man (Laws etc) Or the code of divine law. The groups can have their own code of conduct etc, but he will always favor the code of conduct that he has chosen in the first place. Laws, Or divine.
User avatar #19 to #18 - ubercookieboy (06/13/2015) [-]
But that would still make him lawful
User avatar #20 to #19 - dierdred (06/13/2015) [-]
yes, And on the charts of the alignment, lawful, neutral and chaotic does not mean lawful:will follow laws. Lawful means that he upholds the good and the righteous, no matter the cost. Chaotic follows their own whims, wether it breaks a law or not.
