Rakshasa Playable Race - Need Feedback

Rakshasa Playable Race - Need Feedback. Need help making a playable race for future campaigns. This is taken from online using an image search. This is the Raks

This is taken from online using an image search. This is the Rakshasa

The history of the Rakshasa as a race that can be played in my world is as follows:

Rakshasa – Rakshasa are the spawn of the demons of the same name. Before the death of Ara and the separation of the planes, the demons were everywhere. After the death, a few were trapped in the material world and bred enough before being banished by the Order of Valtheim to create the Rakshasa race as mortal beings. (Taken from my own documentation)

Background for that paragraph:

Ianite (Goddess of Balance) saw chaos in planes from creatures being stuck in the wrong planes. She gathered her followers and created the Order of Ianite. The order created doorways between planes and guarded them. Beings used these doorways to travel between planes to their proper locations. Deities now could communicate through heralds.
Still, many demons and angels refused to leave their new homes. Valtheim (God of "Good") took action and made the Order of Valtheim. The order traveled the planes to remove unwanted beings from the planes.
(More info can be found using link in description)

Rakshasa:

One race of demons trapped in the material world after Ara’s death, is the Rakshasa. They bred with the wildlife there for centuries, creating a mortal race in their image. The Order of Valtheim banished the demons away to the hells, but the mortal race remained. While the other races fought throughout the millennia, Rakshasa grew into a large and successful empire.
(All of this taken from my own work)

Everything below this is my working idea on the Rakshasa:

Basically the Rakshasa are mortal creatures formed from the demons. They were never created by any of the gods or goddesses. Because of this, they really have no ties to any pantheon for creation.

The Rakshasa formed a massive empire (the largest of any single race). This consists mostly of grassland with a desert and mountains to the north, sea to the west, east, and south. There are strips of forest to the west and south. I kinda wanted to go for a Savannah grassland when making it.

There is a large desert in the center where no cities or roads enter. Storms form constantly within, barring anyone to enter safely. This desert is the site of a massive battle where the Rakshasa demons were forced back to their plane by the Order of Valtheim. this also makes it a holy place for the Rakshasa race left behind. If the mortal race worships anything, they worship the demons that spawned them.

Some Rakshasa will make pilgrimages into the desert, searching for the exact location where the demons were forced to return. Their religion holds belief that the center of the desert contains the rift where it is possible to enter the hells.

Of the Rakshasa that have entered the desert, less the a fourth reach the rift. Of those that reach it, half will attempt to enter. Of any 100 that enter, only one will return. The rest either stayed to serve their demon masters, or perished. That one who returns will suffer many changes.

The fur becomes white, like a white tiger. This pigmentation is not genetic, and only results from a pilgrimage into the hells. Since so few do return, the Rakshasa with this pigmentation are honored and revered. It is often that they will hold high ranking positions within the Empire. The journey also grants them with enhanced physical and magical abilities.

That is all the lore and background I have. I think its pretty good, but would love some feedback. Now comes the clusterf*** of a mess that is my attempt at making it playable.

Ability Scores: DEX +2 CHA +1
(I am not sure about this. I wanted to use the monster manual, but I am also biased with wanting Rakshasa to be used for monks. I don't want to just make a monk only race though, so please feel free to offer alternatives here)

Age: Mature at 30. Live until 200

Alignment: Tendency towards Evil

Size: Medium

Height: 6-7 ft (182-213 cm)

Weight: 180-225 lbs (81-102 Kg)

Speed: 40 ft

Languages: Common and Infernal

Senses: Darkvision 60 ft

Proficiencies: Unarmed, Scimitars, Spears, Light Armor
(some races or subraces have proficiencies. made some here. willing to take suggestions on this)

Traits:

Retractable Claws - +7 to hit, Reach (adjacent target), hit: 1d6 + DEX or STR mod. (Unarmed would be factored in. Claws can be poisoned)

Fall Resistance - Resistance to fall damage

Naturally Quiet - Advantage in stealth checks

Backwards Hands - Any disguises have disadvantage.

Im gonna be honest. Half the traits I listed seem stupid. I honestly have no clue what to do for their Racial traits. that is actually the main part of the help I need with this race. If anyone reads this and has ideas or thoughts, leave them below please!

Ability Scores: DEX +2 CHA +1
This is bad because nothing ever has +1. make it +2 and give it a -2 to another stat.

i'd take this out. let it be decided by class.

Retractable Claws - +7 to hit, Reach (adjacent target), hit: 1d6 + DEX or STR mod. (Unarmed would be factored in. Claws can be poisoned)

Claws are okay BUT dont do the +7. let the class determine it, also it would always be str mod. i beleive theres feats that allow it to change to dex. players can take that if they need it. having reach seems weird, they dont have exceptionally long arms. And last but not least 1d6 seems a bit high. Compairitively, teiflings hae an alternate racial trait that gives them two claws that are 1d4 each. Let them increase it normally by spells like enlarge person

Fall Resistance - Resistance to fall damage
how much resistence? i beleive it's like 1d6 per 10 feet of damage, so just complete immunity would be ....jesus. Good, just needs to be elaborated on

Naturally Quiet - Advantage in stealth checks
Good.

Backwards Hands - Any disguises have disadvantage.
Focus on hands seems weird, but i can see it hard to disguise that.

Keep in mind i play pathfinder more then anything, so i may be used to different things than you. good luck pal.

Yeah 5e races have +1 to secondary abilities. I have been told my ideas would be better used with other games than D&D, but the main group of players I'd be using these with are all D&D players.

All the other stuff is awesome though! I will look back at movement, claws, and the backwards hand trait is really weird, but that's more of my opinion as a dm. If I don't have it as a racial trait, I'd prolly do it anyway just cause.

Thank you man!

Here's the race for 4e, you can use it as a base guideline or something for tweaking it to fit your setting. I find the Advanced Race guide published for Pathfinder [ paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advancedRaceGuide/raceBuilder.html ] useful as well since it actually has a system [not a great one mind you but decent enough] for building playable races. These should help ya smooth things over on the mechanics side of things.

Thanks. I feel a little foolish for not looking at past editions before making the race. I got roped into 5e this past summer and haven't tried previous editions

You should learn how to reverse engineer races. I learned that before making any races of my own. Now After a TON of research I can usually create anything I'd like within the system I know (3.5). If you want it in the D&D 3.5 system, I could probably help, but I'm lazy.
