The best way to do things. They can reinforce the door and the shelves to adamantium levels, but they always forget to reinforce the walls, roof and floor.

It's why typical door traps and whatnot fall apart once you hit higher levels in DnD. Even if you can't just teleport past it, it's also not hard to do enough damage per round to tear down thick walls in under a minute.

I did not question hos powers because that just goes as suspension of disbelief or something but even when we accept him as a perpetum mobile, the wall would start breaking at the point where he hits it first (probably with his head).

Ever thrown a stone straight down into a body of water? The larger hole is due to the kinetic "rippling" from the impact.

Say what you will about the movie. But the larger, round-ish hole is not so difficult to explain.

First of all that's liquids, not concrete (which does not behave very fluid under stress).
Secondly those ripples would appear with a decent relay after the impace.

I think games like this are pretty fun. I've known DM's who will say "No you can't do that" simply because they don't want to deal with whatever the player is doing. But these things make the game fun.

Quick story: I was DMing a campaign not too long ago and the Paladin and Fighter of the group were tasked with catching a criminal and putting him into custody in another town. They both have horses and they spot the criminal buying some meat and walking north of town where almost nobody is around.
"so... Could we both ride next to him, pick him up by his arms and rige out of town like that?"
"I don't see why not. But there will be a few checks to make"
They have balance, ride, grapple and strength checks to make. They literally don't roll any lower than natural 18's on their dice.
It was a pretty fun night. After they rode out of town the Paladin and Fighter put manacles on the criminal and rode off in a more comfortable way.

Natural 20.
DM laughs and says that I basically do a backflip onto a horse twice my height in full plate armor.
This becomes my standard method of mounting and dismounting from that point on, no rolls required, everyone who sees it is amazed.

I think that is ultimately up for debate amongst the players though. From what I understand a nat 20 doesn't necessarily mean you can do anything. I know that ability, skill and initiative checks don't mean anything special happens on a 20. Just that you rolled as high as possible.

Also as far as I am aware if a creature has an AC of lets say 30 and with a 20 your max hit would be 25, I think the DM can still say "Look you don't hit the thing, the armor is way too tough" or some such thing.

Anyways the way I see the rulebook is more like a guide. Ultimately the goal should be to have fun. Trust me I've seen way too many people who think "Playing exactly like the book at all times is sacred" and often times they can be the least fun to play with.

I totally agree about it being about the fun. There are so many different rule sets like 4e DnD or Pathfinder not to mention house rules so you can play however you want.

But in pathfinder a natural 20 is an auto hit with a chance for double damage. Basically if you roll 20 and he has AC 30 you hit a weak spot in the armor.

It has a fair bit of rules, but in general it works based on imagination. There is one DM (Dungeon Master) and several PC's (Player Characters). The DM's job is to create the adventure/story, control the non-player characters, and moderate the game, while the players are the main characters in the story, and have a fair bit of freedom. Each character has six stats which essentially (with a few more systems laid on top) determine what that character can and cannot do. So for instance, each character has a Strength value, so if you want to bust down a wall, your DM makes you make a Strength check to see if you can do it. The rest is roleplaying and cooperation.

there are many different ways to play tabletop roleplaying games like D&D, and all use your imagination to some extent. some may just have the game master with a lose idea about the sort of adventure and characters the group will meet, as preparation, and then, everything from then is voice and dice, while others may thoroughly use the rule book, make maps, or even models of buildings, and use miniatures to represent the player's characters within the game. i personaly think the book is good to have, but only as a guideline: a good game master will make better calls than set in stone rules.

in general, the players are tasked with imagining/creating a character, with different skills, genders, items, personalities, feats, races ETC. then the game master starts telling the players about the world around them, and where they are. the players are then tasked with stating how their characters act and react to the world the GM presents. from there it can be focused on a colaborative storytelling excercise, with tales of extrordinary things happening sprinkled in, or it can be more focused on overcoming massive challenges.
if you use visual aids or not, you still use your imagination, while following the rules of the game-(book), as enforced or ignored by the GM.
