"You encounter a dick punching zombie"
"My character is female..."
"...you have defeated the dick punching zombie..."

Note to self: Don't send ZomBro out to fight the dickless ones.

Oh boy I have a story to tell you.
So my first 5E game we were essentially playing as anything we wanted. So o decided to be a Druid who had to be a pirate.
DM agreed to let me have a custom made spell that was essentially Kunkka's ultimate from dota 2 ( Medium Aoe stun and damage , if it passed through allies it gave us a 50% damage reduction from all sources )
Encounter first boss , allies all line up .
Call in the ship
#OhBaby
Real a d12 of damage , get a 12 . Roll d4 for turns stunned , 4.
Absolutely **** on.
DM was kinda **** so for the rest of the campaign he let me keep this spell , boss rooms were easy as **** .

that seems really op.
damage, stun, and damage reduction?
your dm must be a saint, or really bad at being a dm.

He was really new , like this was his first campaign he runned and since I played longer than him I kinda manipulated him into making this world with op ass monsters ( Regular encounters monsters had 30 hp and 40 AC but he made custom weapons and armor we could buy )
It was pretty much using a bit of vanilla but majority was home brew.

Our party consists of
Harbek Battleforge, Dwarven Cleric
Torinn "Dragonfire" Batason, Dragonborn Knight-Fighter
and Malcer Darkraven, Squire-Fighter under Torinn, and totally not an edgy asshole training to become a Lich.
All three were made by Bro2, our DM, because we thought we'd be doing a different campaign (Dadgeon Master couldn't make it).
We walked into what equates to a Dwarven-scale Hobbit hole complex, beause the neighbors heard noises. Inside we find multiple undead, a fairy (tried to kill), a RatKing-like thing made of dogs and people, and a minor Imp of some sort (tried to kill twice ).
Nat20's on our persuasion checks got Skeletor the Female Skeleton and Zombeena the Male zombie to join our party. Conversely, a 5 persuasion roll and a crossbow bolt got Melodeth the fairy to try to kill us and destroyed the chance for us to have a Navi-style helper for the dungeon My brother is cruel beyond his years . We ended the session with a young Dire Wolf protecting the corpse of his young master who happens to have a key we need to escape. We're going to have to kill it Sif style. I don't know what we're doing or why, but it's amusing and confusing in equal measures. We'll be picking it up again tomorrow.
As a Kinda-DM, that spell sounds terrifying to deal with.

Harbek: Bro1
Torinn: Bro2
Malcer: Myself
I also forgot to add that when we found Skeletor's tomb, there was rave music playing and flashing lights shining out of it's cracks.
Bro2 is going as Ravelord Nito for Halloween.

Our DM was new.
A mechanic he diced to make for my spell was that everytime I used it I gained a -1 modifier , and a .5 on the stun duration ( so if I got a 3. It would be 2.5 and on turn 3 for the first basic action of someone he was stunned and for the second he was back to normal)and it would get set back to the original every 3 in game days.
So at some point it was dealing max of 8 damage and a 0 turn stun.
But I found a loop hole , he said every 3 days but never said I couldn't hire a ship right to repair the ship ( It was kind of like each time I used it got damaged )
And he decided to let me do that .

He wasn't great but it was a great campaign , at some point I even got a bounty of 25k ( Third highest bounty ).
Too bad I had my bro playing pally and my best friend playing as a fighter in that campaign , absolutely unkillable.

25,000 was only the THIRD highest?!

Yep , in this world elves were evil so the elve king had a bounty of 50k ( We were filthy rich but DM decided everything to be pricey ) .
The highest bounty on our world was out bard.
This guy literally set fire to an entire kingdom because he was trying to show off a fire trick and got a nat 1. So the grand council considered him a threat and gave him a bounty of 100k. Everytime we traveled and had to roll not to get ambushed for our bounty was so painful with a +3 and plus + 5 modifier because of our bounties.
After we killed a ton of those bounty hunters it decreased to +1 and + 3 ( Higher the better chance of ambushed)

Pros and cons appreciated

I think so.

Pros) Easy to learn, intuitive gameplay, more imagination involved rather than miniatures/squares, diverse classes, balanced, ease of customization

Cons) Brand-new (see: expensive), not very popular yet, no material other than DM Guide + Handbook + Monster Manual, potentially over-balanced

I've been playing the public playtest material for about a year, and I'm just now doing a 5e campaign with the player's handbook. The best part IMO is that they released the basic rules for free. If you like to do custom things, or you are fine with the bare bones game then you don't need to buy anything at all.

The game plays faster than 4e, about the same speed or maybe even a bit quicker than 3.5. It brings back allot of concepts from older additions, while keeping the few really good parts of 4e. Classes are a bit more balanced than older editions, but you get the feel that casters are still more powerful at higher levels. Character creation and leveling up are very simple once you get the hang of it. The only downside for me is the lack of options. I'm used to 4e, pathfinder, and 3.5 which throws feats and paragon paths and abilities at you all the time. 5e does not, in fact you can make it to max level without a single feat if you choose to do so.
I really like the combination of simplicity and complexity. I can bring in a first time player and have him run a fighter or barbarian to not overwhelm them, while having an exprience player run a caster with tons of options.
