I want in
I tried to use roll 20, but it just felt so ******* empty so I abandoned it.
I've been using Fabletop, but it's so simple that it gets boring after about 5 games because there is very little you can do to customize
Honestly boss, I've been sorting my life out, trying to get back on the good path I was on. About to be back in school, guaranteed job once that happens. But seriously, keep an eye out. I'm coming out with a large scale sitewide initiative, hopefully within the next week, and then you'll get to see a lot more of my ugly mug ;)
Now that is nice to hear. Most people that are sorting there life out are going like crap. great to hear you are going back to school and the guaranteed job with it. And i will be looking out for you. But if you do not mind i still got a few questions
1. How did you get off the good path and what happened with it?
2. What are you going to study.
And the most important question
3. How are the D&D sessions going?
1) I have Bipolar II Disorder, and I was off of my medication while searching for a new psychiatrist (The one I had decided not to prescribe me a medication because there was "A lot of paperwork involved", and I realized I'd stumbled across one of the unfortunately common psychiatrists who don't really care about their patients). I had gotten back into school, but an old student loan caught up to me, and I ended up being barred from financial aid. I've sorted it out and after 6 payments (I believe I'm on the 5th or 6th, I have to call tomorrow to find out) I can' get aid again and I'll be back.
2) I'm a psychology major (Surprise surprise!),. I'm going to be in a program where I get my bachelors AND my masters within 5 years. Then I get to go to med school and get my degree in Diagnostic Developmental Behavioral Psychiatry, with a co-major in Neurology. So within 10 years time or so I should be doing fantastic.
3) Really well, actually. I have my own tabletop creation and publication company (We're really small) so I have an ample amount of players to test out my own written modules.
1. Ow that ******* sucks. I don't really have much to say about that
2. 10 years? damm. Well if that works out for you. you will get a job no problem. But i had to do another half a year because i failed my exam and i hate every second of it.
3. Ow that sounds awesome. And how many people play? or are busy with it?
Got a group of around 40 people, roughly half (Give or take) are active, and we have...3 DM's? I have a hard time saying no and I got a thing for helping people, so i was one time running 12 games a week just to make space for everybody
Oh at the time I had a nervous breakdown because off all the stress I was under (RL was a bitch at the time, as well). It does get incredibly daunting. But it keeps my writing skills on the up and up, it keeps me occupied, and most importantly it makes people smile, laugh, enjoy their lives for a little bit even if on the outside it's not ok. All I've ever wanted to do is help people, and until I can do that professionally, I'll do it in any way I can
The system is Call of Cthulhu, and the group we're in passes DM around, so if you wanna be a player, you're gonna have to DM at some point. If you don't know the system, it's really simple, and I could teach you.
the common method is 4d6-lowest (if you roll 4,3,2,1 it's a 9 because you remove the 1 from that list, as an example)
however, if you have a pathfinder society near you (just google "pathfinder society [your area code]") there is a specific method for creation in that
If you got the room one day send me a message pls.
My experience from DnD rollplaying pretty much comes from the posts on here so take that in advice when considering me.
Can I get in on this? I'll sub for details, I have a campaign I was working on from ******* years ago but I have no clue about DM'ing on roll20... Don't they make you pay for character sheets, or am I thinking of something else?...
Current systems known between us all are:
Pathfinder (All)
Dungeons and Dragons (3.5e, 5e, and technically AD&D but we learned that for fun)
Shadowrun
Call of Cthulhu (4e-7e)
Fallout: Equestria
Everybody is John
Betrayal at the House on the Hill
Warhammer 40K/Rogue Trader/Dark Heresy/Total War (No DM's know it, I'm having players teach me actually)
Paranoia (DM is unavailable, but he's teaching me)
Numenera
There are also a couple of homebrew systems and system variants, such as:
Superhero's Doing Super Things (Small system made by Ragingspacepanda)
S.P.O.O.K.Y. (Homebrew Call of Cthulhu System Variant where you fight the creatures of the H.P.Lovecraft Mythos instead of running from them. Created by me)
Amalgamaria (HUUUUUGE Total System and Setting Variant that I came up with. Can't tell you much, but it's a total redux of the Pathfinder world, and my players LOVE it)
That makes me SO happy to hear, I worked real hard on it. The series is called "From The Archives of S.P.O.O.K.Y.", with S.P.O.O.K.Y. standing for "Supernatural Protectorate Order Of Knighted Youth". They take any orphaned children who want to fight the things that killed their family, and they give them room and board, food, clothes, training and an education. They pick an Occupation, get specialized training, then go out and murder evil **** to save innocent people.
CoC is REALLY simple to learn. it took me two sessions to get the hang of it, and it only took two because I fell asleep halfway through (I had worked a double shift that day)
I know D&D 3.5e well enough to dm it and I got a pretty fat stack of pdfs for it, and I'm pretty sure I could pick up pathfinder fast enough if it's as compatible with 3.5 as I remember. Though I'm **** with roll20, I could probably work it out with some practice.
Well I run my own tabletop creation and publication company (We're really small, all we have published rn is the first module for the S.P.O.O.K.Y. Setting. So I figured if I'm gonna get INTO this business, I gotta learn as many systems as I can. Even those that don't really interest me all too much (Like Fallout: Equestria). People a re like "Ha ha, you know a pony system, fag" meanwhile I'm here like "Yeah, a system that if sold for monetary gain (All of FO:E the Tabletop is free) would have earned over half a million dollars and I'm gay for wanting to capitalize on that success. Suuuuure, I'm the idiot"
If you like telling a story, building a world and generally being the one in control then it's perfect for you. Otherwise it's a pretty arduous job and it's difficult handling dumbass players.
DnD is a part of the tabletop genre. In which you have character sheets, a Game Master, and a story, everything else is optional. But DnD is pretty much just fantasy since there is a rule book and other handbooks that pretty much set the fantasy aspect in stone. There are other tabletop games that do offer other settings. I don't know of any wild west themed tabletop games but one could have that as a setting and include the other elements of the game.
It'd be pretty ******* sick to have a jojo themed tabletop game
It would be sick to have a JoJo themed tabletop game.
I don't see why it couldn't be done, though, take the regular game rules of DnD, and the character rules from JoJo (Or, at least enough that way people can't have ******** stuff.), and from there, I don't know, but it could work.
And as far as DnD goes, I prefer to have a bit of diversity, I don't like the whole strictly "Knights and Dragons" idea, I prefer leniency, but thanks for explaining.
omg your so wrong lol its no "knights and dragons" that dude explained it so bad dnd you can do anything iv seen a character go around invent explosives and become a urban terrorist iv seen a psychotic elf that specialized in making elf skin boots! a gnome bard who killed his enemies by making them dance to death i did a game where one pc was secretly evil and used mind seed on all the npc's he could every time the party was at at towen/city eventually ending up with a clone army had a pc talk the big bad evil guy into a better plan and sparing them i played with a monk who was so ridiculously skilled at mele he could stun a freaking full sized t-rez with a single attack iv seen wizards who specialize in time manipulation which allowed them to set off 8 delayed fireballs in a single turn (8 turns is how long it woudl have normally taken which is an insane ammount of time 8 turns of combat is more than enough to kill most pc's) and he coulda do that and set up a area of about 200ft of , **** youn you in here you gonna die from massive fireballs area. one character was super slow and weak halfling and we had to gtfo and he couldnt keep up so our orc barbarian simply picked him up and put him in his bag of holding and later used him as a projective weapon the halfing was a rogue so when he was thrown he was able to do a sneak attack+extra dmg from the force of being tossed by an orc
Thing is, you can. It'd just be a lot of work making all the rules for stands and such. There's a lot that goes into just one battle for DnD so technically you could do literally anything using DnD as a framework as all TTG are at their core the same
Honestly I'd love to DM or just play, its unfortunate that I straight up suck at it due to lack of experience and groups never holding together longer than a session or two. I spend a lot of my time making builds that I wanna play or find puzzles and scenarios i'd love to see people go through.
