DragonMech World Setting /w PDFs. Dragonmech is a Steampunk style game setting that uses the d20 roll system much like D&D or Pathfinder, it still technical

Dragonmech is a Steampunk style game setting that uses the d20 roll system much like D&D or Pathfinder, it still technically is in a fantasy setting therefore there still is magic, elves, dwarves and some other fantasy based races, however it centres on the creation of mighty mechanical war machines powered by Steam, Magic, clockwork and slave labour. Some races even going as far as to make towering mechanised cities that move on their own accord. I split this into multiple separate sections to try and cover as much as I can without making too many walls of text.

The LORE

Prologue
The Dark age has begun. With each passing day the moon grows larger in the sky, to the point where it is now literally falling to eath, particle by particle, in an excoriating lunar rain that flattens castles and kills anything foolish enough to walk the land of highpoint by night. The moon is so closer that lunar monsters can drop to the surface, whether by choice or as involuntary byproducts of the Lunar Rain. Day By Day, the Lunar Dragons swam in ever-greater numbers, while other abberrations stalk the surface. If the Lunar Rain doesn't skin you at night, the Lunar Dragons will eat you during the Die.

Present
Colonizing the Underdeep was the only hope for those who once controlled the surface. Elven Archmages and orc warlords were no match for the Lunar rain pounding their cities night after night. Wave after wave of refugees sought shelter underground. Deep underground, the ancient dwarven stronghold of Duerok was safe from the Dragons and Lunar rain – but not from refugees, Dueroks dark age was ferocious. Pushed back by relentless waves of invasion, the dwarven city state lost both land and lives. A stooped white-haired dwarf named Parilus came to Duerok one day, claiming to be the eldest of the Master Gearwrights. Only the most ancient dwarves remembered the Gearwrights Guild, which was but a footnote in stories of a mythical Age of Walkers passed on from their grandfathers.

Parilus taught the dwarves to build great mechanized walkers powered by stem. He showed them how mighty a ten-ton metl man could be, how its heroic metal hide could resist the Lunar rain and beat back the Dragons. Eventually they created five sprawling city mechs that were gargantuan mechanised cities controlled by the Stenian Confederacy and now the center of life on the surface. These cities became safe zones for all kinds of life and businesses, even colonised by smaller mechs. Mechs became further embedded into society as workers began to bear mechanical limbs and organs, causing resource disputes across the races as gold meant nothing as metals became on-demand in every market around the globe.

Due to the Confedacies law and order system, many vigilante mechs have been formed and even resistances have been heard of, the law allowing policing mechs to be Judge, Jury and hangman and with martial law in effect this meant lawbreakers were almost never given a second chance.

>This is all I will provide of the Lore, if you wish to look into it more, refer to the Corebook provided.

Mechs and how they work

The mechs in the game are covered in over 40 pages of the Corebook explaining origins, society, inside a mech, combat, making a mech and prices of mechs and their parts as well as general stats including AC, initiative, etc.

The party usually starts off with one decent Mech since some mechs need multiple pilots or can house more than one person, because of this a thing to consider is the power source of the mech, its mech type and the number crunch of statistics.

There are Steam-powered mechs, Man-powered mechs, Clockwork mechs, Animated mechs and Undead mechs. Here are most of them.

Barbagula

“Barlgura is a nasty little mech favored by Irontooth clans. A barbgula has long legs and a light build. It's right arm is equipped with a changler and its left arm has an oversized lance. Barlguras are used to ambush isolated mechs and to fight in packs against more difficult targets. They are build for speed.”

A huge sized mech powered by steam with 7 payload units of weaponry, it's height it 15ft and is a fairly basic mech, it only requires one pilot.

Bastion

“Like the castle towers it was modelled on- with squat, heavy legs and short, stubby arms. It has no head per se. The internal frame is iron but the armor is stone, identical to that used in most castle. In fact, if the bastion were to rest itself alongside a castle wall, from a distance it would look like part of the castle"

A colossal sized mech powered by steam, it comes off with 16 unit payloads of weaponry and requires a minimal crew of 3 to operate properly it's heigh it 35ft.

Dignitary

“The dignitary was developed by human traders based out of Edge. It is designed to impress wealthy travelers with the solid protection it affords. The passengers are secured in what is essentially a large iron vault. The mechs fast legs ensure it can outrun most enemies, and its two simple weapons give it basic protection against most enemies, whether they attack in numbers or singly”

The Dignitary is a Colossal type two mech which carries with it 41 units of payload weaponry and its 50ft high, able to carry a crew of 8 due to its large vault it can transport goods and persons large distances and through battles unharmed.

Incinerator

“The Incinerator is a dwarven anti-infantry mech. It is designed to compliment other mechs, not to be deployed on its own, as it lacks the weaponry to take on other mechs. It acts as a 'wing man' for mechs that are vulnerable to infantry.”

The Incinerator is a Colossal type two mech and is powered by steam, it has 32 units of payload weaponry and can hold 8 crew.

Skullcrusher

“The Skull crusher is a typical orc mech. Most of its crew is slaves, who turn massive wheels in its torso in order to keep it running. Despite its straightforward constructions and simple armament, its combat tactics are fairly sopisticated. The skull crusher targets nomad bands, small settlements and other isolated communities. The mech itself is there primarily for intimidation; it is the 300 orc warriors who accompany it on foot who do most the killing and looting”

The SkullCrusher is a Colossal type four mech and is powered my man power which is mostly slaves, it's height is 110ft and it can hold up to 64 crew.

Slaughtergore

“Slaughtergore is a thoroughly repulsive undead mech that has been sighted wandering the endless plains, near the sight of a major battle between orcs and human nomads. It is suspected that a encromancer visited the location shortly after the battle, animated a work crew and then assembled this mech on the spot”

A gargantuan mech that runs off an undead power-source, it is 25ft high and can only hold 1 crew.

Verdant Fury

“Verdant Fury is a unique elven mech frequently sighted in the forest of hereal. It is manned by Juna Darkwaler, an elven ranger who watched his grove be destroyed by the Lunar rain. He and his former adventuring companions constructed four mechs, one for each of them and returned to their homelands to guard against the rising tide of chaos”

Verdant Fury is a huge sized mech standing at 15ft height, it has 5 units of payload weaponry and
holds one crew.

There are many more featured fully in the Mech Manual which features mechs from 5 different factions, 5 unique undead mechs and a roughly just above 10 Specifically unique and unusual mechs. There are also a bunch of mechanical and non-mechanical monsters that also keep the the steampunk theme of the setting.

Cogling Crawler

“Cogling Crawlers are the pets and hobbies of many coglings. The result of ever-tinkering hands of the gear forest halflings, crawlers are often the first creations of young coglings. Treasured by the coglings as other races would a favored pet, the bond is often even deeper, as a cogling is the owner, tender and parent of their crawler. Crawlers can malfunction or, like the animals they are often constructed to look like, just wander away. Stray crawlers can be dangerous as, despite their whimsical appearances, they are covered in the filth and searing grim of their own tiny engines and the gear forest. Thus, nearly all coglin crawlers are also carriers of the disease filth fever"

They are essentially the rats of Dragonmech, both pests and pets as they are manafactured en mass halfling mechanics, even created by children Halflings.

Ferrous Cube

“The Spongy, Rectangular shape before you is the metallic blue color of steel covered in oily residue, but quivers slightly as if were a semi-solid. Protruding from its otherwise smooth surface you can see rods, gears and other metallic debris, all of it badly rusted.”

This cube is essentially a gelatinous cube/ooze that feeds off of rust as opposed to adventurers, they are menacing pests when they make their home in Gear cities or forests where they slowly eat away at the contraptions by rusting them. Because of the nature of their rusting, they tend to take only minutes to rust a large portion of refined steel, but take weeks to eat it. This makes them very hard to notice until they have already caused considerable damage.

Lunar Giant

“This towering humanoid stands over 20 feet tall, it has a lumpy body with loose-limbed arms and legs, with a neckless mound of a head featuring saucer-like eyes, a slitted nose, and a thick mane of black hair. Its skin is the greyish-white color of the moon, and it holds a huge club in both hands”

Bizarre and terrifying Lunar giants are among the moons most feared children. As with dragons, Lunar giants are usually larger and stronger than their earth-born equivalents. They also possess powers that apparently derive from the moon itself, as they wax and wane with the moons presence in the sky. Whether they are power Lunar elements or simply dangerous titans, these creatures are feared wherever they go.

Stygian Horror

“This reptilian horror has a sinuous body, long neck, leathery wings, and a layer of dark-colored scales. It's head has a wide, vicious beak surrounded by four stubby eyestalks, each with a mad red eye on the end. It waddles gracelessly but quickly on power-ful legs terminating in several vicious hooked claws”

As the Lunar rain fell, creatures of the surface forced their way to the world underground. In turn, this booming population pushed many denizens of the underworld to dig deeper, flooding the stygian depths with refugees. As the more uncharted caverns became home to the diplaced creatures from above, the things living there had two choices- go deeper than themselves or push back. The Stygian horror pushed. Known as 'The Dragon of the Deaths' Stygians were believed to be myths just to frighten small children, howeverdue to the Lunar events, Stygians became more aggressive and would end up fighting back for the territory of their caverns.

Remember to keep those requests coming, as always I will be working on the next one maybe later today or tomorrow. I thank you all for your continued support.

I am now working on the "Your Typical First Session" and I wasn't going to do a second part on Core Epic PC killers but some people want me to so look forward to another version of that.

Cool wish you covered weapons though like the steam cannons and guns.

I was meant to but completely forgot about them, I've been busy as of late with Job interviews, advancing the current campaign I am running and organising over 10 people who have completely different timezones into functional parties. Also working on the other comp requests which won't come until midweek since I have sessions this morning, afternoon and tomorrow afternoon to GM for.

Although someone else could easily do a whole one on the weapons and I would gladly link to it on a stickied comment.

I guess I could do one on the weekend.

I'm not the biggest fan of this setting, but you did a good job of making it look interesting. I think warforged are the most mechy I can get, however.

Oh yeah also didn't want to nitpick but the dignitary picture is wrong its supposed to be the one with the big vault on its back..

Too bad I can't seem to find it, since this guide and all it's pictures are now indexed at the top of google when you search dignitary. If you search Dragonmech though it's only indexed on the second page, but if you search dragonmech and any of the mechs included in this it shows up indexed on front page. If you can get me an image of the proper dignitary I can put it up.

You can just screen capture it from the pdf.
