A young gnome of 95 years but one well traveled, as (he claims) he has studied in the grandest cities and been to the greatest of libraries and is the source if his great knowledge, which he loves to brag about.
Not a very...social, gnome as he tends to talk...slowly...to..idiots, and he thinks everyone is an idiot until they prove otherwise. he admits everyone has their uses but it's always brain over brawn.
He has a distinct hatred for High Elves. They know what they did, and that's all he says on the matter.
He believes there is more to the cosmos than what is already known, that there is no true good or evil but a persons perception on an act and as such doesn't see necromancy as dark magic but another form of power.
While others run away from demons and dragons, he is obsessed with them, wishing to talk to them and draw them. Especially the great and majestic creatures that are dragons. but not dragon born, in his eyes they're filthy.
his greatest dream is to know dragons greatest secrets and history.
His goal for now is to learn the secret method of becoming a lich so he may continue his research for countless ages and explore the countless realms yet undiscovered.
Cult of Tiamat
This is the first campaign I played with B.L.A.N.K, lv1 and the first campaign a played from the beginning. each week we'd have a different amount of players and as such characters, so depending on who was there depended on the flow of the game. One person I met at these weekly meet ups was a man who could minmax a character as easily blink. In this campaign, until he was asked to DM another game, we met with the now infamous (at our gaming store) Perry the Pole-arm Paladin, Half-Orc worshiper of a crazy god of battle and slaughter.
The group had met as playing bodyguard, or just traveling with, a caravan to a city. Blank, who is a three foot gnome, was riding in the caravan wagon as it would do no good for a gnome to try and keep up.
At this time we had BLANK, gnome wizard. a female high-elf wizard, a thief halfing, Perry the paladin, an a dwarf cleric (played by my best friend).
Traveling along, some of the party talked to each other as to know the party better (we enjoyed RPing) but my character being the bastard his is refused to talk to them, especially the high-elf.
Coming over a hill we saw the town we were all heading to, and we were surprised as we saw smoke and fire coming from the town, and even more surprised when we saw a dragon lying over the town. I immediately stood and looking through a scope to observe the dragon with great glee as a brought out ink, quill and scroll to sketch it the best I could with a moving cart.
The others decided it would be best to help the town as best they could and went straight for it, every preparing as we got closer. accept for myself as i just fanatically drawing the dragon. As we entered town we were only met with smoke and the sound of wood burning, everyone took this chance to set up a good attack position: Paladin up front, celric and thief in middle and wizards at back.
This was set up in mind who could do the best damage where, AC and HP. DM admitted it was a good set up and as he had five cultists charge right at us everyone was ready for battle. Accept B.L.A.N.K who was still drawing his stupid picture.
Perry was so well made he managed, at level 1, to fight and gain the upper hand against 3 of the cultists, the others were a magic caster and bow user. it wasn't until the third round of battle that B.L.A.N.K had finished his picture. putting his scroll down inside the cart, he stood up in all 3-foot of his gnomish pride and, focusing on the magic caster, cast the Cantrip Fire Bolt. rolling my D4 and +1 damage I did a total of 5 aimed specifically at the persons face (the DM let us be specific in our targets some times). Taking this badass moments I spoke IC
"Know this base villians, you face the (I like to roll my R's) Grrrreatest Gnome wizard of all time. Flee now unless you truly wish to know my power"
Considering I'd just blasted one of them in the face, and their hair was on fire, my intimidation check rolled very well causing the cultist to pause, giving the others a chance to gain advantage and strike them down. Once the fight was done with B.L.A.N.K jumped down from the cart and passing the High-elf, said "That is how you cast magic, you may wish to observe and learn."
Like all magic casters the high-elf took pride in her magic, and was insulted by my remark. before we could really get the argument going the DM had another group of cultists attack while chasing a family, who was heading towards the keep.
we worked well as a group, even going so far as to say the gnome and the High-elf were competing to see who was better in spells and knowledge.
with my wisdom and research feat I knew from the robes we were facing the cult of Tiamat and explained what they were all about. the elf knew these were most likely mercs hired by the cult as accept for a few, the cult didn't really fight.
By time we got to the keep, family still alive and relatively unharmed, the first session had to end and we picked up next week. we now had : gnome wizard, High-elf wizard, Perry, Dwarf Cleric (best friend), half-orc barbarian, human fighter and the halfling thief.
after we entered the keep we all split up for an hour or so to help the wounded, talk to whom was in charge and and gather information. myself, perry and the human fighter talked to the person in charge we discussed what was going on and argeed on paymentd for helping people evacuate the town and stop the cult where we can. I took books and scrolls of my choice as payment.
The first thing we had to do was get the towns high priestess in to the keep as she was a strong healer and would be needed to when evacuating the people. We were told the easiest way to get to the church, of course, was through the sewer system. the half-orcs had a bit of trouble, I laughed was the high-elf was to wade through **** and me and the dwarf had no problem walking through the sewer.
Accept for the part where we were attacked by a horde of rats.
This part even the DM admit it was genius.
Using the Illusion cantrip, i made an image of a cat as large as i could make it, which filled up the height of the sewer. I think it was the Cleric who had a cantrip that allowed him to make noises of his choosing from different spots, I cant remember its name but can also alter colours of flames and make small earthquakes in the local area.
Together, we scared the rats into fleeing after passing an intimidation check and the DM laughed for a good five minutes after that, saying we passed up some XP, but I simply said we saved some HP.
At this point the man who played Perry had to go for a smoke break but said to continue on without him. For that, we were thankful.
Not because we didn't have to wait for him, but because of what happened next.
We got to the end of the sewer and kicked opened the gate, as we did two patrolling cultists came around the corner, and these one's were in heavy armor and had broadswords. If Perry wasn't on automatic we all knew he would've attack them and we all would've taken a lot of damage and most likely drawn more cultists to us.
what we did was close the gate to the sewers and waited until they passed, no attacking, no damage because we knew he'd need as much HP as we had when it came to the church.
When the guy came back we explained what he missed and admitted, he would've attacked them.
We eventually manage to sneak to the back of the church took down three cultists covering the back of the church and used the hidden entrance to sneak inside quickly finding the priestess and some other villages trapped inside with the cultists trying to break their way inside while setting it on fire.
A quick explanation later and we convince everyone to follow us just as the door starts breaking. It's at this point we have end the game for that week and our man playing Perry is asked to DM next week, so he decides that, just as the doors of the church burst open from a battering ram he runs back inside, and this is a direct quote, "To save the candle." Naturally he dies and we don't see a living Perry for the rest of the campaign.
The next week we pick up where we left off, escorting the priestess and the villages towards the keep via the sewage pipe. as we get into the keep we suddenly hear people screaming with deafening roars coming from above, I instantly know what it is.
Without waiting for a word to be said i run towards the top of the keep while the others discover what's going on, as i burst onto the top of the keep my raging gnome hard on, making a tent in my robes, is justified as i see the blue dragon circling the keep, the roof and men on fire as it begins to circle around to attack again. The fighter burst on the roof and tells me the dragon and cult are attacking, and I answer with glee "I KNOW"
As the dragon readied to attack again it hovered above is, reading its breath attack and before anyone can get a shot off I shouted up to it, in Draconic of course.
"Why is a great and powerful beast attack such worthless creatures?"
This caused the dragon, and everyone else, to pause what they were doing. looking closer the dragon, finally, noticed a small creature standing in the middle of the roof. More surprisingly, he answered.
"WHAT BUSINESS IS IT OF YOURS, SMALL CREATURE, TO QUESTION MY ACTIONS?"
"I do not question your actions, I simply wish to know why you are wasting your power on pathetic creatures such as these"
after a few minutes of the dragon simply hovering in place, no NPC nor the fighter willing to do anything as none of them could speak draconic but the dragon had stopped attacking so they were willing to wait, and I'll admit I was bricking myself.
"I AM FOLLOWING THE WISHES OF MY GODDESS, WHOM HAS ORDERED ME TO FOLLOW THE ORDERS OF THE LEADER OF THE CULT ATTACKING THIS TOWN."
I acted surprised and horrified "That is an insult to your being and your goddess, you alone would be able to destroy this town, this very keep I stand on with no great effort. The fact that the cult is attacking us with you is an insult to you and your goddess and a disrespect of your power. you could destroy us right now but you should not stop with us, you shouted destroy the cult for insulting your goddess"
Myself, and IC, held my breath as I watched the DM decide if my words had any effect on the dragon. I knew dragons were prideful and powerful creatures and i hoped by stroking its ego so much it orgasmed that i could get it to stop attacking us, and maybe even help.
After a minute of the DM thinking the dragon says
"I WILL LISTEN TO YOUR WORDS SMALL CREATURE AND SUFFER THIS INSULT NO LONGER, BUT I SHALL NOT ATTACK THIS CULT AS THEY PRAISE MY GODDESS"
Unable to believe I survived a dragon encounter at level 1 proclaimed my victory and happiness in a very loud, and clear, shout. The fighter didn't know what was said but the fact that i got a great big blue flying fire breathing dragon to leave had put him and the guards on edge, they thought I was working with the cult or how else had i got it to leave.
Without explaining myself I ran down the stairs and found where the female High-elf was. rushing to the front door I cheer and gloated to her I got the dragon to leave, while proceeding to send Fire Bolt's into the face of the cultists trying to break their way through the front door.
This goes on for five minutes, both of us casting spells and cantrips at the cultists trying to break in while bickering over what i did, whether she believed me or not and me saying this proves that I, B.L.A.N.K, the greatest gnome wizard in the world am truly the greatest gnome wizard in the world as at level 2 I looked a dragon in the eyes and got it to stop attacking and leave.
The others eventually joined us and kept telling is to focus on the more important task of stopping the cult. Unknown to me while this fight was going on the towns folk was slowly escaping the keep and the town and once we got word that they'd left we were ordered to retreat, both me and the high-elf giving a covering fire of Magic Missile while we escaped.
Once we managed to get away from the cult and the keep we regrouped and agreed we needed to stop the cult or at least slow them down, and considering that
they're taking on mercs we should be able to slip right into their camp and blend in.
It was at this point we had to stop the game for the night as most of the group had to leave, but we picked up next week.
Leave a comment if you want to hear the next part of us infiltrating the camp, finding dragon eggs, meeting Perry again and us accidentally inventing dub step.
