Betrayal and Fidelity
My friend' s girlfriend is cheating on him.
The two of them are in the my group I run. I' tolerated her because my friend brings her, but, ta put it simply, her brand of evil is completely at odds with my brand of evil. I dislike her on at a philosophical level, which is about as deep as I get.
I found out she cheated on him almost by chance, because the guy she' s cheating on him with is actually one of my coworkers. I' m pretty certain that she doesn' t know that I know, and I' m almost dead certain that my friend has no idea that he' s being cuckolded.
Now, that' s her brand of evil. It' s petty, crude, and only satisfies her base desires. She' s breaking the foremost law of a relationship, and my friend would be devastated to find out.
My brand of evil is very self righteous. I didn' t bother trying to tell my coworker to stop, since he went ahead and told me everything and he' s net doing it to spite my friend. I didn' t tell my friend about it either, because it' s all in a way his own fault. I obviously didn' t tell the
girlfriend to step, because I had a much, much better idea.

I charred the theme of my campaign. Every inch of the way, there' s some sat of betrayal. At first, I kept it pretty subtle, to see if I could get any reaction out of her. I think I handled things pretty weakly, since notxiro seemed to phase her.
Then, I straught forward an NFC healer. One of these clerics that tag along with the party and provide them extra healing, and I presented him as a "sinful clergyman.“ Married, but traveled with an adventuring party just so he could sleep with ether women.
The ether players thought he was pretty comical, but the girlfriend ended up making a move I wasn' t expecting. When the cleric came beck from one of his nightly exploits, she berated him fer being unfaithful.
I pressed the issue, and actually went into dialogue with her. My guess is that she wanted the cleric to step cheating so that I' d step mi wiry attention to it, but her intention . She tried to out the conversation short, but her loyal boyfriend, who was
always ready to side with her, took up her position and tried to convince the cleric to step being adulterous.
It was delicious. She actually started to squirm a bit, listening to her boyfriend say all kinds of com lines about the importance of fidelity and then tum to her, waiting fer her to chime in with some sat of affirmation. But, I didn' t want this to be used up so
quickly, so I out the conversation short, apparently in the interest of moving the game forward.

I' m in a pretty good position. I can basically just keep adding scenes like this, so that when he finally finds out it will all just be so much more devastating and her betrayal will be so much more villainous. I can feign absolute ignorance, and if things somehow go against me I can say I acted in a manner to put
pressure on the girl so that she' d feel guilty and confess.
The adulterous cleric NFC went and worked it' s way to being a major part of the story. Eventually, my friend and his girlfriend managed to convince the cleric to take his marriage vows seriously, which not only gave him a much more serious personality, but actually improved the power of his healing spells
since he new had greater faith in his love far his wife).
And, guess who the BEES is fuciking? That' s right, the cleric' s wife! Wha ends up betraying her husband and the entire city!
The cleric is devastated, loses all his spells, and all the players are heated up in wryer at the BEES as if it were him nailing all of their wives. The cleric, youjust a packable to the party, just follows the party, muttering that he still loves his wife. My friend eventually got at the cleric,
saying that if he hadn' t left his wife alone, none of this would have happened.
I felt a little bad at that moment.

We' re still continuing the campaign (the party has to save the besieged city right naw), and I wish I could come up with an excuse to video tape these games. Before, I had trouble with the girlfriend because even without us playing with alignments she would spontaneously shift into chaotic evil made far no
reason, but new whenever any mention of adultery occurs she stiffens up into lawful good so fast that you' d swear she was a paladin, so as to not have anyone accuse her of being anything other than a strict opponent of all farms of betrayal.
The problem is, I' m running out of ideas that don' t simply make me tum the game into an endless series of M. Night Shyamalan . Betrayal seems like an awesome theme, until you realize that the players stop trusting everyone and everything. Of course, this is in a way very awesome (the only
thing they trust is each other, and my friend is going to mam to regret that), but once the betrayals start lollery, they begin to lose their dramatic impact. A betrayal is really only a betrayal if you don' t see it cornily, and right new all of my players are on high alert.
Right now, its seems like I' m wiry to have to some of my [wiry credibility for awhile, and just heave stacks of obvious betrayal after obvious betrayal at the players, until finally the BEES gets to make his speech, where he says that everyone has betrayed them, including someone within the
party. At that paint, I' ll single out the girlfriend, have her try and convince the other players that she' s loyal to them, all while the NFC cleric and the BEES try to convince them otherwise.
It' s going to take some planning to make the cleric and BBIG' s arguments have any impact, but that' s still weeks away, ass uming my friend doesn' t find out first. Either way, I' m having fun.

Just as planned, OP. Just as planned.
