Well, I guess.. But I wanted to show him, somehow, that I cared. To dedicate the few of tears and feelings for him. Somehow..

I guess it depends on the person, and just as importantly, the animal? Unsurprisingly, I'm much less affected when my fish, birds and rodents pass away, because I wasn't as attached to them as I am my dogs or cats. Those are more like pets, while these guys have bypassed that and are simply family. I'd feel no differently if a sibling or child passed away, to be honest. My furry, four-legged kids mean the whole world to me and more.

Same for me, I just couldn't be sad. I tried to force out a tear while we were burying him but.. I just couldn't, don't know why.

I wanted to dedicate something for him, you know. I can feel that I'd rather have his company even though I have two cats nowdays, but I can't really say that I miss him as an emotion.

Hm. Was he not a particularly affectionate cat? I doubt I could get overly attached to a cat who was antisocial, overly independent, or especially feral.

As it was, when my kitties passed away, I was crushed, because I knew I'd never again have a warm ball of fur to sleep beside my head every single night, to purr for hours and reach out a paw just to touch me and make sure I was still beside him; no longer would I have a companion who would lay on the kitchen table as I went through my mail, slapping at the envelopes and trying to keep me from sliding them out from under him.
No more hilarious boy who would waddle over and actually plop his butt down in the bowl I had just set out in preparation of mixing some cookie dough, no more "high fives" when I held my hand up in front of him.
Those are the kind of cats, the kind of family, that you just don't ever, ever forget.

Well, no, that's the strange part. He was one of the most awsome cats ever.

The first night we had him, he came up to my bed and slept at my side.

See that orangey colored fellow up there? Our neighbors moved away and left him behind when he was just a kitten. So, logically, he came right in through my doggy door, completely disregarded our frantic dogs who were spazzing out over him, ate an entire bowl of my mother's cat's food and went to sleep right on my bed.
Strangely enough, he also never hissed, growled, clawed or bit, not in his entire life, and any kitten or even puppy that we took in after him (he changed my entire view on cats), he'd mother them, groom them and cuddle with them for hours as they slept. Best cat in history, there'll never be another like that boy.

Man.... Hmm... Wow, I'm speechless over the awsomeness.. Thats, indeed, a cool cat, hehe ;) Did he die?

Yeah, just last year.
He had a stroke and developed a blood clot which cut off all blood supply to the lower half of his body. He was crying out in pain, dragging his back end and clawing his way toward me. The pads of his back feet were cold as ice, but I didn't know what was going on at the time.
I rushed him to the vet as an emergency visit and they put him on heavy doses of painkillers immediately, then proceeded to try every blood-thinning medication they had available, including drugs for humans when the ones for felines failed to show any improvement.
In the end, nothing the team of vets tried could loosen it and he was going to be in absolute misery if it didn't just eventually kill him, so I had him put to sleep. This is the last photo I took of him when he was in my arms, before they kim jongistered the euthanasia drug to put him to sleep.

I didn't stop holding him until I had him cremated. His ashes are in a wooden urn on my desk, beside Spike and Shadey's.
This boy changed my view on the entire species, which I was never even very fond of before I met him, and I have since rescued nine others -- not including Toffles himself whom I took in -- fostering some and keeping others.

I wish he could have lived more than just eight years. It seems as though he was proof that the good die young, but I definitely cherished the time I had with him, and it was a lot longer than many could ever wish for.

Without a doubt, the best-natured, most amazing cat I will ever have the privilege of knowing in my entire life.

Man... I have to say I read it all and it was quite the touching story.

But.. This would make a great story in a book, or a post here on FJ. Just saying.

I've really only ever put my writing skills to use when it comes to paragraph-style role playing, honestly.
I'm pretty good at describing how I feel or noticing details in stuff others sometimes miss, I suppose, but that doesn't write a book by itself.
Besides, the rest of the world sees "just a dog" or "just a cat". They don't really understand how important these guys are, to me.

It's nice to share some of their stories with others who have gone through the exact same thing who can appreciate the gravity of such events, but really, every moment I spent with them is just as special to me, with or without an audience to listen.
