Well, you can break rock, it would be hard (ba dum tsh) but it can be done. But when they are in their "still" state they are indestructible. That's why they were forced to do that rip in time thingy.

Actually, them falling into the rip in time was an accident. As it happened, this crack in time has been following the Doctor around, and it appeared on the ship in episode 206. The Angels, chasing the Doctor, River, and Amy, had been siphoning energy from the ships batteries to rejuvenate themselves, and turned off the ship's gravity fields, which caused the Angels to fall into the crack in time, and thus, removed them from all existence.
