Am I the only one who honestly just doesn't like Matt Smith? Not hating on the series or anything. LOVED Eccleston for his personality, and Tennant definitely embodies what I think the doctor should be. Ever since Matt Smith took over though the focus of the show has been mostly on pansy little Amy and Rory, with the goofiest bum of a doctor I could imagine playing the role.

I know Tennant's a hard act to follow, but come on...

You see, Matt Smith is suffering from what is known as the "peter davison effect"
No matter how good his stories are, or how good he is, a lot of classic whovians can't really like him because subconsciously he killed their doctor. ( Tom Baker ).
David Tennant was my favorite once I caught up with the new series on netflix, but once I started watching the classic series Matt very quickly became my favorite, because he actually seems like an alien and not just a smart guy with a time machine, and more true to the classic portrayal of Patrick Troughton while still inventing his own take on the role.
Now, as for the writing, it's not as consistently great at emotion ( RTD was a master of character development ) but it's waaaay better at actually telling stories, instead of just retelling the same **** over and over again, like seriously RTD didn't know how to do a finale that wasn't Daleks or The Master.

Matt, Pat, Tom, Colin, Chris, and David are all my favorites, with matt slightly leading the charge.

I feel like the main reason people don't like Matt "as much as tennant" is because they expected him to be just like tennant, and don't really grasp that each doctor is supposed to be radically different from the last.

He's an okay doctor, I just don't like how they made the new seasons.

Personally I love Smith much more than Tennant, and the writing has improved a lot more in my opinion, but like I said, my opinion.

I blame the writers more than Smith. I like the goofy Doctor, but the writers go from goofy to super seriously like every other episode. They made Smith's Doctor too all over the place. I consider Smith himself a good actor, as he nails the parts they give him. The problem simply lies with what they're giving him.

You can't blame Matt Smith for the focus of the show, he can't control that. Blame Moffat. And as for him being goofy, why is that a bad thing? Each doctor has had different quirks and things about them that make them different. Do you not remember the fourth doctor? He was also very goofy and silly. I for one love Matt and the way he plays his doctor.

Moffat aside I loved Matts Doctor, but am I the only one who couldn't stand River Song?

My thoughts exactly

I like his doctor, but then again my favourite is probably the silliest Doctor of all ("Would you like a Jelly Baby?" In fact I love his Doctor, I hate the stories that Moffat's been making for him.

I've never watched the series myself but that seems to be the general consensus. Even to me he seems a tad silly.

Speaking of which, for someone who is interested in starting watching the show, do you know anywhere I could find it online? I've heard that a good place to start is the ninth doctor, though the original series is pretty good in its own right.

couchtuner.eu has loads of shows. If you click the Doctor Who link on the list to the right you will find every episode and special from the 9th doctor and out. Most other sites have many holes, this one does not.

Thanks for the advice, sweatymannipple and thefasrdog. Though I do not have Netflix, at least I know it's on there.

I would highly recommend Netflix. it's only 8 bucks a month for just streaming and the first month is free.

Netflix isn't available here yet. And when it will it won't have a lot of stuff.

Netflix doesnt have all the originals
they have a few episodes for each doctor and it really pisses me off
#15 to #12 - pridefulmatthew (07/09/2013) [-]
Well no one has all the originals...Most of the old tapes were destroyed unfortunately.
User avatar #25 to #15 - skilletpanhead (07/09/2013) [-]
BUT, they might have found 90-odd missing episodes, leaving only 9 missing.

Could be, wont hear about it for a long ******* while though. 50th anniversary and all that crap...

But if they did find them, I will not have a life for a long ******* while lol.

You need to login to view this link

Netflix has it too.

And yes, starting with the 9th doctor is probably a good idea. It's what I did, now I'm going back and watching Classic Who.

Other than that, yes, Matt Smith is a little silly, and what not, but he's still a great doctor, depending on how you look at it. He can't do serious/emotional scenes all to well, but he has his moments, for example, his speech at Stonehenge about the Pandorica.

Netflix is great if you got it.

Other than that there are slightly less legal was to watch them...
