I've seen people complaining about an 'old doctor'. I know that Hurt won't be the next regeneration, but I don't think an 'old doctor' would be so bad.

He isn't the next doctor, he is something like the doctor that ended the time war or something.

Here's advice if you don't want a Doctor to leave. Doctor Who works BECAUSE of change. The changes drive the show...and if you don't like a certain season, you know a change is coming.
It's sad to see someone go...Doctor, companion, Tardis interior, etc...but it is for the greater good.

I heard that, apparently, it goes back in time, and John Hurt was actually the ninth doctor, meaning, Christopher Eccleston was the eighth, I don't know how people came to this conclusion, but Google it, its weird.

In "The end of Time" (4x18), the Doctor says to the Master "You weren't there, in the last days of the Time war, you don't know what was born" In "The Beast Below", he says "I kill a sweet and beutiful creature [...] And i'll have to look for another name, because I won't be the Doctor anymore". We know that John hur'ts "Doctor" is "The Doctor who broke the promise" and that "all he did, he did it in the name of peace and sanity, but not in the name of the Doctor". I think that all of these fact show that John Hurt's Doctor is the Doctor who put end to the Great Time War, or should we call him... The Valeyard?

He will not be the next Doctor, however, Matt Smith has been confirmed to be leaving on the Christmas special.

Personally, Im rather excited, following Eccleston and Tennat, I found Matt Smith ok at best except for the last couple episodes of his seasons.
