the simple version:

the first guy does something like 10 million years in the future, and he HAS to do it, so its impossible for him to die before it happens
(time travel stuff)

and the other one died like 5 times but keeps coming back to life fomr some reason

the first guy (Capt. Jack Harness) was resurrected after he died, after the first companion (Rose) got the power to change time after looking inside the TARDIS matrix. due to Rose not being able to control this power right, Jack never dies, you shoot him and he comes back.

Rory, the second guy, died after being shot by lizard people, came back as a plastic man after the nestiene or whatever concience used Amy's (Rory's wife) mind as a base to set a trap for the Doctor, He then lived for two thousand years in another reality and died again before the proper reality was brought back. Then he was sent back in time by a weeping angel and died in an unknown age. So he died two times, three if you count his self from another reality dying.
