The first episode with river was her getting trapped forever in a computer planet. I don't see why it's a problem, besides for the fact that I'm annoyed that they're pulling the "Dies immediately after being introduced" again.

I think it was because she 'changed' him in series one and stayed with him for another series. She was the only one he got properly close to and involved with. Plus he probably thought she was 'good' in situations.

If you watch the first two seasons again you can really see them grow closer and you start to appreciate her more, but there are better companions I guess.

Also Rose was pretty much a rebound, he just lost everyone, is the only timelord left in the universe and he meets a hot blonde

Started out very good as a grade A medical student but making her fall in love with Ten was a huge mistake from a writer’s point of view, especially just after seeing how amazing chemistry he had with Donna Noble in “The Runaway Bride”. I wouldn’t have minded her relationship with the Doctor if they hadn’t turned her into pretty much Bella from “Twilight”, she started bitching and moaning about how he doesn’t actually “see” her and only sees Rose at the most inappropriate times. Her character was given a lot more development in the finale, but it was a little too late for redemption. All in all, every companion since the revival of the Series had some redeeming qualities and was likable in several episodes, Martha was only likable in two, her first and her last.

Also first black companion, she travelled back to the 1800s, and the 1900s before segregation ended and her skin colour was never an issue. I know racism is a pretty big subject to have in a show that's meant to be approachable for everyone including kids, but that was a huge mistake in my opinion.

I do not have a cogent and reasonable response to one of the first coherent and thought out arguments I have seen on the internet, nor do I wish to spend time gathering specific evidence with which to refute your points. You win this round.

Doctor Who is one of the few shows that can make me cry. It might be the only show when I think about it.

Well, it's the only live-action TV show. One Piece and Rainbow are both good by way of cartoons that can do that.

It is technically a cartoon, the Japanese use "anime" to talk about any animated tv-show.

The manga is better, but using that terminology tends to turn people away as if it's a "geek thing."

There's an old series and a new series.
It's fine to watch just the new series (started in 2005, season 7 started now).
Just a heads up, the first season is by far the worst one (in my opinion), so if you don't like it either push through or just skip to season 2.

Come on, don't do that. I know you're trying to be nice, but talking like that does nothing, it just give everyone a smug feeling that they're being nice. Anyways, I didn't like 9 very much because I found him a bit too serious and angry all the time. I know the anger of the Doctor is an important aspect, but I prefer it to be shown like it is with 11: rarely and intensely, like in "A Good Man Goes to War".

That's fair enough; I think Tennant's my favourite of the new series thus far. I like Ecclestone more than Smith primarily because it feels (to me at least) like Smith is just going for the same thing Tennant had. Each Doctor should be unique.

Also, I like to feel gentlemanly sometimes, thus the comment. The attached picture is the first gentlemanly picture I came across in my reaction folder.

I think that season 1 (of the new series, which started in 2005 with Chrisopher Ecclestone) is as good a place to start as any. Might as well go from there.

Actually I think Freema wasn't cast as the companion until they'd finish shooting the finale of season 2, I could be wrong though.

Also the same happened with Karen Gillan and Eve Myles. The both played small roles in an episode of Doctor Who and got cast in a much bigger role. Karen in DW and Eve in Torchwood.

Nah, with Moffat, its gotta be some sort of connection to the new companion. Freema Agyeman (Martha) wasn't cast as the next companion when she appeared during the second season. After she was cast, they just justified it by saying she had a similar-looking cousin who died at Canary Wharf.

Martha also said that she had a cousin who worked there, meaning that the characters were related in the fact they looked a lot a like.
They also seemed to do this with Gwen on Torchwood. She's related to the psychic girl in the episode The Unquiet Dead - this being more influential. because it means that Gwen's actual family has had history with the Rift in Cardiff before she even knew about it.

Why stop there. Why not a high bridge onto a moderately high bridge, and then off of the moderately high bridge.

As long as he's hurt, I'll settle for two fracturesw or one break, but seriously this guy ruined Dr Who for me, although it's still watchable, it's not as good as it used to be

He made the plots too unrealistic or childish, if that makes sense. I mean , people turning into Daleks? Besides, the Daleks are overused IMO.
