Can anyone help me understand what happened to that Rivers person?

I stopped watching Doctor Who a long time ago (no time and the fanbase scared me away. No offense.).

I won't use spoilers because it's a rather old episode and I'm pretty sure most of the fans have seen it. Um, well when you first meet Rivers it was in the library. What happened to her? Did she die or was her memories just transported into the computer and she came back? I never understood what happened to her.

The Doctor and River were both time travelers. What we saw in that episode was the Doctor's first contact with River, but River's last meeting with the Doctor (they essentially lived out their contact in an irregular order, always having to catch up with each other and compare notes to see what had happened in their specific timelines.)

River did indeed die in that episode, and every instance of her thereafter was her living her life up to Silence in the Library/ Forest of the Dead.

Also, it's alright, the fandom scares me too.

I love the show, it's one of my favorite things. I can't stand the people who take that love too far, into the realm of annoyance.

That's pretty sad. Knowing exactly when and how the love of your life will die. She didn't look that old either. Too soon I say.

Well she didn't entirely die because of the memories in the computer. In the episode with trenzalore Riversong is able to communicate with living people.
