All shows are better with a gothic/morbid theme to them. Take Misfits, was the episode where the GTA guy went on a killing spree the most entertaining, or was it the one where the new guy (not Rudy) whines about Jess not being his girlfriend for 48 minutes.
David Tennant, darker, edgier feel to the episodes; they were more sombre. All this silly shit has made me not watch Seasons 5-7.

I agree, I think it did get more silly and fun, and lost a bit of the darkness Tennant had. But you could say the same for Tennant in relation to Eccleston. I can see how it might not be to some people's taste.
Personally, I like it, and it makes those dark moments all the more powerful (like in A Good Man Goes to War).
