But the whole time she actually wanted the Doctor instead of him, until she suddenly chsnged her mind and decides she like the husband better, after her baby got contaminated by their spaceship/time machine and became a time traveller, then grew up and fell in love with the doctor before murdering him. It's all very complicated.

Start with season 1 with the ninth doctor

Thats David Tennant, the 10th Doctor. You could either start at the new series or start at the beginning with the first doctor. These episodes are from around 1960 so you can't start at the REAL beginning because the recordings are lost. I haven't watched them but they are claimed to be very good.

If you want to watch the new series just look for Doctor Who (2005). There you should start at the very beginning with the 9th Doctor. Don't worry, it's a different actor but you'll get your Barty Crouch Jr. after just one season ;)

I found a torrent with most episodes.

I'd start with the 2005 Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, who is the one right before David Tennant. He's only there for one season, iirc, but it's the most logical starting point -- a lot of the characters and storylines are introduced -- and really he's also a good and fun doctor as well.

I'm watching through the OLD shows now to get my fix. Not the same.

Yeah, he sorta has that villain vibe about him in general. I've only ever seen him play bad guys until this. But he actually plays it zany and irreverent.

True, but I feel with more time in the role Eccleston would've received the same.

Although I have to say Tennant's development was rather good, especially when he was on his own after Martha.

At the same time, Eccleston was the one who wanted out. If he was more enthusiastic and stayed on, there may have been a chance for improvement, but his attitude is what it comes down to.
My information may be off, but he was the only living actor that refused outright to be a part of the 50th anniversary special later in the year. That puts me off a bit.

Oh, absolutely. He was quite good in the role, though not my very favourite. Still, very good. Eccleston is a strong actor, with a broad range.

Also, Donna was the greatest companion IMO. The one time there wasn't a separate love interest involved.
