stogie, What Ar. think. of
entrust:
that moment when the doctor has an with himself
and then he was waiting to hear Rose laugh, out when he didn' t,
he remembered that she was trapped on a parallel world where
he could never reach her, and in this moment, he died a little on
the inside cause no one got it and Rose is still not there with him.
it was funny up until comment above mentioned rose
everything is sad again

I'm pretty sure he got over rose by season 4.

The doctor never gets over anyone, he just moves on and keeps remembering the companions of his past.

I'll probably get a lot of stick for this, but I don't really watch Dr Who. I'm one of those completionists, so if I *was* to start watching I'd have to start with the black and white films and go from there.....don't really have the time or money to buy them all and watch them.

But I have a question for Whovians......Dr Who has the TARDIS right? So Time and Relative Dimension in Space. So how can he not get to Rose? Why is her parallel world uniquely powerful enough to keep the Doctor out?

His TARDIS can travel anywhere in time and space in his universe. Unfortunately it cannot cross over to parallel universes.... except when it malfunctioned that one time.

So.....he can't go back and stop her from going with him when it malfunctioned? Or does being in a parallel universe erase her from his universe including her history so she doesn't exist in his universe at all in any time period?

The TARDIS is a living thing and would not allow him to cross his own time line, because it would create a paradox; which would basically **** everything up everywhere.

Ah.....so he can't just think "Well what happens by accident, can happen by design." and spend a thousand years flojangling the TARDIS with his sonic screwdriver and the best minds in his universe to make a TARDIS Mk 2 which can travel between universes, without causing damage? Since the TARDIS wouldn't let him modify it?

The only people who ever perfected TARDIS tech were the Time Lords (which the Doctor is one of) and they're all locked away in time-prison forever, he wasn't any sort of technical genius among the Time Lords either, not even a qualified pilot, he stole his TARDIS from a museum and ran away. If you've ever seen him trying to fly it and running all over the place it's because A) he barely knows what's going on, and B) it was meant to be flown by 6? people simultaneously. So, short answer, no, he really can't, he just doesn't know enough and nobody left in the universe knows enough either.

Huh, I was just thinking, if he was able to travel in time, he'd be able to go far into the future to when another race has learned how to make technology similar to the TARDIS and get them to help.

And that's what my friends all say whenever I'm watching a show with them and I start picking holes in it. Like a girl had me watching My Little Pony with her and all I was saying I think that Princess Celestia is an evil overlord who banished her sister to the moon and dissapeared her parents so she could take full power. Then sent one of her brainwashed spies into the closest village, who she has told to send weekly progress reports, so she can keep tabs on any dissent in her kingdom........she hit me and told me to stop ruining the show with logic.

But, and this gets into ******************************************, any race that has discovered time travel would inevitably used it, thus making it known to the past that they have the tech and the tech would then exist at every point in time at once providing there was a machine present at the time (heh).

Unless they had a rule, like the Temporal Prime Directive (Yes I'm now crossing the Trekkie/Whovian barrier!) that meant they're not allowed to make their presence known to people in the past or interfere. Only observe, unless they travel forwards, because then it's the future and anything they do won't have happened yet, so cannot effect causality.

Other races also have time travel technology, it's just that the most sophisticated by far is the TARDIS tech, unless this race exists past what is assumed to be the end of the universe in some form of resurgence universe they would almost certainly have been found by others traveling forward

Unless they knew they were coming to the end of the universe and it's time span, so they travelled back to the beginning of the universe, where no time travelling civilization would think to look. Who would go back in time to find more advanced tech?

They would still have created it before they left so there would still be people there while they were working on the tech though

Perhaps they didn't want anyone abusing their technology. So they went to the beginning of their race, which they knew was doomed anyway, and stopped their people evolving. Since they were in their Time Cities, the people would be unaffected by the change this would create in their timeline, so they didn't cease to exist. Then they transplanted their entire civilization at the beginning of the universe.

As Sweeper said in a Discworld novel, discussing quantum is very difficult in a language that was designed to tell other monkeys where the best berries can be found.

But that brings us back to the initial topic then, the Doctor could not, in fact create an improved TARDIS with the aid of this extremely secretive race of autogenocidal weirdos because they would never allow themselves to be found.

He can't go back on his own timeline. Well, he can but it's a rule of his not And when it malfunctioned it ripped a hole between the univereses, so travel there and back was possible. But when he sealed it up again she was on the other side :/

yeaaah, that is why if you want to get a lot of the story but don't exactly want to spend time watching 726 episodes to watch from 2005. Since it sorta re started there it does give you pretty much all of the information that you would need to know

Can't be a true fan unless I've done it to death.
- I've watched every Star Trek episode including Enterprise, Original, TNG, DS9 and Voyager.
- I've watched all Stargate episodes including the Original film, SG1, Atlantis, Universe, Ark of Truth, Continuum and that awful cartoon series.
- I've watched all the Star Wars films, the clone wars cartoon, played pretty much all the Star Wars games (including lego editions) and read most of the Expanded universe
- I've watched all the Firefly episodes and Serenity.
- I've watched all Babylon 5 episodes and films
- I've started on Farscape and am also looking into Andromeda

So yeah, I'll probably watch all 728 episodes. While I'm at it, any more sci-fi shows I should be looking at?

Doctor Who will give you a lot more problems than most shows
For the simple reason that (like a lot of other BBC and even ITV shows of the time) a lot of the earlier episodes have no known full copy surviving
There are 798 episodes of Doctor Who at present (with the 799th to be the one celebrating the 50th anniversary) but of the 253 episodes made in the 60s, only 147 still survive
The others have the full audio soundtrack and a few screenshots, but not the episodes itself, so watching those may prove a bit of a problem (I mean usualy in these links you'll find those episodes reconstructed with the original audio and the screenshots and other images but I suppose it depends whether you'd be willing to watch them in that form)

oh yeah I think they are already hoping to do that but it's so expensive and, even though it's still popular, the black and white 60s episodes are far more niche than even the rest of the old series
Here's hoping

Can't be any more expensive than some of the tat they show on TV nowadays. Besides if they released it on Blue-ray I'm sure they'd make their money back soon enough. Like how they remade the original Star Trek series and TNG with modern day CGI for the ships and effects, then released them on Blue-ray.
