I love him too, and was ecstatic to find out that I went to the same schools as him.
Not got to meet him yet though, I'm quite a bit younger (20) so I never went to school at the same time as him... Sad times.

But I guess it's down to how mainstream media handles things, like more people just liked him because he's cool, not because he was good at being the Doctor, but for both combined.

If anything, it's a very cerebral show.

It's a good show, perfect and weird creatures and aliens, the doctor is awesome, it has a well structured story and you genuinely feel like something terrible can happen at any moment, and sometimes it actually does; I think the best part is that they actually kill main characters while not making them "expendable", so you never know when it happens and you cheer for it to never happen, although you know it will happen, there will always be another doctor.

Although sometimes there are some pretty "James Bond" kind of villains who have the doctor under their thumb, and they just talk. But besides that, it's awesome.
