That is one stupid fucking college. I was pleased when mine strongly suggested against macs for the engineering program. They're like, you can use a mac, but it's not gonna be able to run any of the programs we use except word and the internet...

Well it really depends what the colleges largest department is. Engineering will almost always go with Windows. Computer Science usually suggests a Windows/Linux duel boot. Almost any other field will go with Mac simply because all their products are highly compatible with each other and the editing software is pretty decent.
