I think Deadpool was intended to be a parody of Deathstroke, hence his name being "Wade Wilson" in opposition to Deathstroke's "Slade Wilson"

Actually when dead pool was created he was supposed to be a parody of deathstroke. But as you can see he is made into a marvel character.

Fun Fact: deathstroke is also Slade. The villain in the Teen Titan series.....for anyone who doesn't know.
