But Tarkus was the only one of the Berenike Knights to survived Sen's Fortress! All of the Berenike Knights stormed the fortress and he was the only one to conquer it, placing his summon sign down so others could summon him when fighting the Iron Golem. He went to Anor Londo and the only way to get in was for him to go round a very narrow ledge and across the rafters.
He broke a window to help let others inside, but because of his heavy armor, fell to his death (and now you can take his armor).

My computer currently retails at 80$ and it can run Borderlands 2 on 1360x728 resolution, but with most graphics options turned off. Gameranger is a program used as a "walking-board" between two computers. It basically allows you to create a Lan Party with someone you are not directly linked to. As In: you run the program, you join someone's server, the game runs, and you play on the person's server. Easy-Peasy.

I agree that Dark Souls isn't the hardest game ever. I agree that those games are harder (due to purposely being stupidly hard, rather than just cleverly punishing akin to Castlevania) .

However, I feel like people get stuck on this whole 'IT'S SO HARD" thing way too often with the game.

The difficulty is not what makes Dark Souls so good. It's how the game is built. It's precise. Knowledge is your greatest tool, not reflexes or skill. If you're new, then just take your time and most of the time you're pretty damn ok. Walk slow and keep the shield up and you win a lot of the game.

But, again, it's not about the difficulty itself, but the fact the game just rewards the player by being aware and knowing what they're doing. I can play through the game in a few hours casually now, but I keep playing, because the game offers other things. Variety. Subtle and amazing lore that, much like the gameplay, requires a lot of close inspection. A fun community. Interesting, if very unpolished, PvP stuff. And of course very rewarding gameplay that makes every victory really feel like a victory.

If you think it's not too hard, then that just means you should be able to enjoy the other aspects of it more.

Allow me to collaborate: when I first heard of DS, everyone in town was calling it some tough-as-nails game that couldn't be conquered. I played it and found no challenge whatsoever (Save for really late game, which would have disappointed me if it hadn't And the spiderlady who distracted me with dat thorax ). I truly, honestly, found games like Zelda II, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and others to be more challenging, especially since they did a good job at making you work for your prize.

Dark Souls comes off as a game that is either too hard for some or too easy for others.

Except that, they don't: Zelda and Megaman both have realistic difficulty spikes and scenarios that aren't near-impossible to surpass; Dark souls has portions (Like the bridge fight), that just slink into Ninja Gaiden territory.

Please don't insult Zelda or Megaman by comparing them to a game like Dark Souls. There's a million ways I'll let you insult them (Oh, they're repetitive, they aren't original, they're on Nintendo consoles, and whatever else retards like to spout about them), but don't compare them to a broken-down, barely-coherent assfest of a game like Dark Souls

It was only on my first run through and, prior to the fight I was capable of doing everything else with little effort And as I said previously, it was only on my first fight with him, the subsequent attempt was much simpler.

But that's my original point: Dark Souls is not this nigh-impossible, super-challenging game that people make it out to be. Everyone I talk to is always complaining about it, saying it's harder than games like Megaman 2 or Ninja Gaiden 3 (NES), when I wholeheartedly disagree: when I can get through my first run of Dark Souls on the 360 in little over 25 hours (Though to my chagrin the first section of the game was not played by me but by a roomate), but can't even BEAT Ninja Gaiden 3, CLEARLY the difficulty of Dark Souls is overplayed.

But, none of those games do the same stupid **** that Ninja Gaiden does. Castlevania is great, but not perfect by any means. It has some wonky things like terrible hit boxes, the hit animation throwing you off of ledges when it's supposed to protect you from hit-spam, and enemies at ****** angles, but Ninja Gaiden has constant, infinitely respawning enemies in places that just don't make sense. Those ******* owls? It's awful. It's quite possibly the worst game of that era that I've played.

I'm pretty sure dark souls isn't meant to be a platformer like those games, you may have been playing it wrong. IWBTG is litteraly made to be the most unfair game, it isn't a challenge, it's practically impossible. The only way to beat, is to die time upon time again, with retry after retry.

Ninja Gaiden throws you into endless pits constanly, respawns enemies non-stop, and is mostly hard for stupid reasons. But still, it's a good game.

Say what you will about Dark Souls, but those examples are among the worst you could've picked.

>The only way to beat, is to die time upon time again, with retry after retry.
>Not a challenge.

K. Not saying I think it's a good example of a hard platform game, due to the design.
Is it challenging, though? **** yes.

Ninja Gaiden hard for stupid reasons? All the random falling to death moments on Bed of Chaos (before I started walking down) felt ******** to me. The game is also partly hard because of the enemy respawns when you rest at a bonfire, not saying it's the same thing as Gaiden, because it isn't, but it's still worth to point out.

Okay, sure, it is a challenge, whatever.
But it's like trying to beat down a cement wall with your head. It is a challenge sure, but it isn't fun nor rewarding, and in the end all you'll have is a headache.

To your second point: Yeah, Ninja Gaiden's pits are a lot like Bed of Chaos, but Bed of Chaos is only one part of Dark Souls, and the pits in Ninja Gaiden are there from level two and onwards. And don't get me started on the respawing enemies in Ninja Gaiden.

The enemies in Dark Souls only respawn when you rest, so you get full health and regen items, but the enemies respawn, so it's like a continue, except you get to keep everything, and you get a check point. That seems perfectly reasonable.

But in Ninja Gaiden, if you kill an enemy near the right side of the screen, and move just one inch to the left, they respawn, and that is ********.

Still though, I actually went and replayed it after I posted my previous comment, and the game holds up great, dispite its ******** moments.

I agree with what you say about IWBTG, but I want to add that while the game isn't that fun in itself, getting past a spot where you have been stuck for such a long time is a really great feeling. If there had been no savespots, I wouldn't even have bothered with testing it.

I love Dark Souls to death, but Dark Souls and Ninja Gaiden are pretty similar, in challenge wise. Dark Souls is a skill based game, you have to have skill in order to beat it, also you have to be cautious, you can't go running into enemies expecting to be able to blow off the game, I bet you already know this. But Ninja Gaiden is kinda the same, you do have to have skills to beat it, and you have to be cautious, sure it might take you a couple of tries to beat the level, but it gives you that experience of what is going to happen, same with Dark Souls. You have to memorize the enemies and level layout in Ninja Gaiden just as much as you have to memorize the traps and items in Dark Souls. BTW, I find Ninja Gaiden as rewarding as Dark Souls, they both give me the feeling of accomplishment.
