Dark Souls Facts: Manus

Part 2/3 of the Manus series. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: Much of Dark Souls lore is based on speculation. Ultimately it is up to each player to decide how they interpret the lore, as very little is actually canon. Information gathered was taken from item descriptions and character dialogue from within the game.

Manus, Father of the Abyss, was a
powerful being with strong
connections to darkness and
humanity. He was referred to as the
primeval human".
Manus slept peacefully in his grave
for countless millenia in a chasm
beneath the lost kingdom of
Oolacile. The wicked serpent
Kaathe appealed to the people of
Oolacile' s sense of greed and
tricked them into disturbing Manus'
slumber, Manus' soul went wild. He
grew to enormous proportions,
corrupting the humanity of the
inhabitants of Oolacile and turning
them into crazed monsters. He then
turned a large portion of Oolacile
into an Abyss, an
dark where humanity ran wild.
Knight Artorias, the Abyss Walker,
and his faithful companion Sif were
sent to put an end to Manus. Alas,
the Father of the Abyss proved too
great a foe for the duo. Artorias was
perverted by the dark, and in his
last few moments of sanity
sacrificed his shield and his arm to
prevent Sit from suffering the same
Ultimately, Manus and Artorias
would be slain by the Chosen
Undead when Manus ripped
through the fabric of time to pull the
Chosen Undead back to him, for he
sensed the presence of his
precious pendant. Manus'
destruction here would not be his
final end, however.
Thousands of years later the shards
of Manus' remains would coalesce
into a new form. This form would
come to be known as Cassandra,
Queen of Wranglers.
It is possible, given Manus' original
size, his strong ties to humanity,
and his various titles, that Manus is
actually the Furtive Pygmy. If this is
true, then Manus is the only of the
Four Lords that the Chosen
Undeadd fights at the peak of his

Could you not put thing from DS2 in future comps. It has not yet come to the mustard race and I feel like that last panel was something of a spoiler for those of us who care.

Don't stop doing this, it's basically the only reason I still check on FJ every couple days.

Game hasn't been out for more than a month, and those who play PC haven't had a chance to play it.

Granted, it's really not that much of a spoiler since DkS lore is basically all inferences from items/quotes.

Question, does it ever say in game that kaathe was the one that helped awaken manus? I heard someone say the serpant was never named and the Frampt or one of the others could have done it.

Also, thanks for spoiling dark souls 2. ( I'm near the end, but still that should have had a warning.

No, Kaathe's name is never explicitly stated, but given his relation to the Abyss and the fact that he does the same exact thing with the Four Kings not much later, it was more than likely him.

I'll be putting soilet warnings on these from now on, but its really not that big of a spoiler. No more so than Gwyn being the final boss in DkS1

Manus and Artorias were both very fun and challenging boss fights and my favorite in the whole game. Artorias slightly more my favorite though. The key is rolling.

See the way that the 3 weapons on want seem to speak when you read the lore it almost sounds as if it could go 2 ways. Either when Manus split each piece would become something, or they all came together to form one being. Nashandra's piece was one that wasn't strong in it's own right, thus it craved power it did not have. This is either what drew the other pieces to her, or this is why she sought out her own power. If all the pieces didn't reconnect, this could mean there are more Manus spinoffs out there.
