Actually, a humongous proportion of homeless people are war veterans. This happens because many veterans come home with mental illness or other disabilities, and they never get aid. What can you do at that point? And if you have no family, where can you go? You need to learn to have more empathy and understand that usually, homelessness isn't the person's fault. And even if it is, so what? Everyone makes mistakes, that doesn't mean we should abandon them like they are worthless.

Thirty-nine percent report some form of mental health problem, and 20 to 25 percent meet criteria for serious mental illnesses, god only knows how much there really is, its not like they will be willing to come in and be tested anyways.

most of them who do suffer from some kinda of mental illness wouldn't even know were to go or if it was safe or not. And how many stinky people do you see working in malls and such? its not like a homeless person can just walk into walmart and get a job. it is no where as easy as you think it is.

Yes, because every homeless person has never graduated high school or had a job. Not like they got laid off or were in an accident that prevented them from doing a normal job. The possibility that life fucked them over a little to hard and they have zero options can't exist. if someone is homeless and jobless, they must be incredibly lazy and deserve to live in the streets. My god, lets just take all the poor peoples homes away from them as well. If the don't have the money to be middle class then they don't deserve to live in homes, throw them on the fucking streets. Hell, might as well just start killing the homeless, less work for the city. It would certainly make the back alleys cleaner. Maybe we should just grind their bodies into cheap food as well. I don't know what a gubmint is. My family's income is 21,000 dollars in a good year. I lost everything I ever owned when my mother was in a car accident and almost died, we had been in the process of moving and all of our belongings were in storage. The storage company sold it all because we were 1 MONTH late on payment. We lived out of a car for 3 months with my little sister of 6 months at the time. The only reason we have a home at all is because my grandmother gave us hers. If not for that, my little sister would have gone to an orphanage and my mother would have committed suicide. Their was no way to "Help ourselves" at that time. The kindness of others was the only thing that saved my family and i won't take shit from you about how people should fend for themselves because they all made bad decisions and deserve it. I was fucking 9 years of age at the time, i couldn't do shit for myself. You are a lucky mother fucker to live off of 60 grand a year and even luckier to have the option to downsize your home. Count the things you don't deserve because you might not always have them.

You can't just leave someone on the side of the rode though. What job would you give to a homeless person? They have no money, no way to wear clean clothes to work, no way to clean themselves. How are they to start fresh with no help. It's a hopeless situation, it's a wonder people can survive out their at all.

Look at it this way. You're a senior in high school. Your parents go out of town for the weekend and die in a car crash. Overcome with sadness over your parent's deaths, you fail all of your classes and drop out. Now you're a high school dropout that can't get a job besides McDonald's (Which doesn't pay enough for 3 meals a day, taxes, insurance, and all that other shit that you need to survive). Pretty shitty, but at least you have the inheritance from your parents to keep you off the streets for a while. That is, until your home gets foreclosed because the inheritance money isn't enough to pay taxes and you're forced to sell all your shit and move into an apartment in a shitty neighborhood. At this point you have two choices. A: Get shot by your neighbor in a gang initiation or B: Slowly spend all your money on food and rent until you run out. Assuming that you chose B, you now have no money, no food and, hey, look at that: HOMELESS.

Now, let's look at someone else. You get excellent grades in high school. You go to collage and then get a very well paying job. 40 years later your parents, siblings and friends are all dead for various reasons, and you're driving home from work when some dumb ass runs a red light and crashes into you. You end up losing a leg, the other driver is dead, and on top of all that, you lose your job. Now, with no family or friends to take care of you, and no way to make money, you whiddle away all the money you had until you get kicked out of your house and move to a bad neighborhood. Now remember choices A and B from before? It's the exact same fucking thing, with the exact same consequences.

Not all homeless people are lazy, or make a lot of mistakes. In fact, a whole lot of them are a whole lot like the two situations up above. Don't be an ignorant fuck. You were born with a fucking brain, so use it.
