So i will be the only living entity, long after all the stars have died, long after the only matter in the universe is in black dwarves, and black holes....

i will still exist when they succumb to radioactive decay, and dissipate into nothing more than photons... no... no i will not press this button.

if you like supernatural, death says something fairly awesome...
paraphrasing..

in the end when everything is over, death will reap god, he will then turn the lights off, and lock the door as he leaves

After those millions of years of existence, you could learn every scientific fact that man currently does not know.

Then use this knowledge to rebuild the universe to your own liking.

I might just press this button...

What if you're too stupid to learn everything?

If you wait long enough then it's likely another universe will form.

That depends on how im imortal. Am I imortal like Wolverine (who isnt actualy truly immortal) in that I can heal some pretty nasty wounds and never age? Or am I immortal like deadpool who can heal from pretty much anything? Or am I immortal like Hitler there is nothing special about me and I will die however the memory of me will live on to the end of humanity?

User avatar #113 to #41 - hudis (07/27/2013) [-]
Kind of makes me wonder to what extent that would go. There's a character in Dragon Age 2 who made a deal to acquire immortality or something and wound up becoming a gnarled skeleton-like, rotting old man who could barely speak or move because he aged so long but could not die.

I wouldn't like that.

Consider the following. If you were eternal, that would mean that you could be the sacrifice to make humanity, and beyond, exist in harmony. As an immortal being, you should be able to eventually fix every problem.

Yeah sure, you're gonna be sorta lonely, but I believe what people say about families and stuff is not quite so, you'd get to start a family, and watch it branch out in your children's children and so on until the end of time, you'd be able to have an enormous amount of grandchildren, and I'm sure that would not be lonely.
User avatar #61 to #58 - dblej (07/27/2013) [-]
Unless you make one too many enemies and you get encased in concrete or molten iron or something that imprisons you for eons and you're stuck there unmoving, undying, and theoretically you could still waste away to nothingness, you could never just completely go. That is a terrifying concept to me.

That's when you just sing for eternity though. Find the most annoying song in the world, and sing it loud as **** . Forever. Witch Doctor - Ooh Eeh Ooh Ah Aah Ting Tang Walla Walla Bing

Being immortal would be a curse to me. Seeing everyone you care about age and die before you, never being able to have a family...
#38 to #36 - funmanigro (07/27/2013) [-]
also if a virus kills off the human race, you'd be sitting there.... all alone... not being able to kill yourself to end the agony....
User avatar #44 to #38 - winsauceiswin (07/27/2013) [-]
you'd have all the time in the universe to discover how to do anything. i'd learn to build a starship and go off in search of other species. no dangerous experiment (like testing with anti-matter) would kill me so i could try CRAZY things. along my millions of year long trip i could also learn even more until i went insane but then being insane would run it's course and eventually i'd transcend into an even more enlightened being. on top of all this immortality and invulnerability would make you essentially a god. using scientific knowledge you could bring back those you lost (or ones very like them) but more so i think you'd be able to move past your sadness and come to terms with it given a million lifetimes of time.
User avatar #167 to #44 - wastelandgunner ONLINE (07/27/2013) [-]
Yes, you could do all that... but what about the never-ending lonliness?

And what good is knowing the secrets of the universe, if there's no one to share them with?
User avatar #168 to #167 - winsauceiswin (07/29/2013) [-]
i have no problem with loneliness. i prefer solitude and after i'd lived my life my wife and family i would be content with immortality.

the human race is not the only species of intelligent life. i would share the secrets of the universe with all sentient life.
#54 to #44 - anon (07/27/2013) [-]
it doesn't say you are invulnerable... for all we know you could get beheaded and still "live" on

true, but i like my idea more
User avatar #45 to #44 - winsauceiswin (07/27/2013) [-]
furthermore, any species you ran in to would be eternally grateful (assuming they had the mental capacity to be so) or they would fear you and eventually try to destroy you, but hell, you're immortal and invulnerable let them try.

i have greatly thought about this. its an interesting concept when you think about it, you cannot die, you could be a super hero, you would be a celebrity, you would make millions, the amount of lives your could save (or destroy) is astounding. you could literally do what ever the **** you wanted, you could skydive without a parachute, you could do drugs and have as much sex as you want and not need to worry about disease. you would be able to win any bet related to dying or dangerous acts. Of course there are downsides, if you age at the same rate, then your body would become so frail you eventually would not be able to move, and you would be trapped to a bed for the rest of forever, watching others come and go but never being able to join them. If on the other hand you did not age, then you would have to watch as everyone you know grew old and died (the same would be if you did age, but you would age with them, so it wouldnt be as weird) You would have to experience the death of family and loved ones, you would watch your kids die. Its a scary thought, what if you went crazy? all that potential, wasted, because you think your a bee trying to pollinate plants because your brain just couldn't take living that long. You would eventually come to learn everything there is to know. humans naturally enjoy learning, so eventually you would get bored of being a daredevil and a celebrity and you would just start learning new things until there was nothing else to learn. then what? would you become a teacher? teaching college students whole fields on your own. perhaps you would be a philosopher, pondering life and its meanings. All in all, there are many pros and cons to the idea of immortality, ones that you must consider greatly before truly making your choice. As for myself, I would not accept the offer it was given to me, but it was forced upon me, with no way to rid me of my curse, i would spend the rest of eternity becoming the best CoD player in existence.

Immortality is the greatest curse one can be granted. You will be forced to watch the earth die, the sun explode, and be trapped in the void for all time watching the universe decay. The only way I see a way around this fate is being able to traverse the mutiverese.
