"My husband discovered he has terminal lung cancer, but is acting strangely. Better shun him and act like he's a bad husband."

"Oh? My husband still isn't acting normally? Better cheat on him, and kick him out of his own house."

"Oh, my husband made meth to support our family after he dies? Better divorce him, keep custody of the baby and send his son to stay with my brother."

Just thinking how the justice system would handle this *********** is making me rage.

"I previously had spoilers in my comment, but they are now removed"

I know I'm responding to this late, but I really need to correct a lot of what you said.

she was naggy in the beginning, I'll give you that. However, it's perfectly understandable for her to question both the second phone he lied about, and why he was (allegedly) buying ********* from Jesse. Not to mention the whole part where he went missing for two days. So yes Number one was annoying, but still completely justified.

number two is something that everyone seems to confuse. Why does no one remember that Skylar kicked Walt out after finding out that he had been paying for the cancer treatment himself. She only guessed that it was drug dealing, not knowing it was Meth at the time, but completely understandable. Once he admitted it, then forced his way into their home, she called the cops. Again completely understandable. When she realized that the only way she could get him to leave would be to tell the cops about his meth cooking, she chose not to in order to keep her son from finding out. instead she slept with her boss and immediately told Walt. It was all so that she could get a criminal out of her house without hurting her children.

Third point is just ridiculous. If you don't understand why someone would rather live in poverty than accept drug money than you seriously have a problem. I realize that it is just a show, and Walt is the main character so everything he does is justifiable but that's the entire point of the show, the fact that he started out as a good person but through his increasingly terrible actions became a monster. Mr. Rogers to Scarface as the creator of the show put it himself. Just because he's the main character doesn't mean that he was right in cooking meth or killing people.

Sorry for the rant, if you made it this far, thank you for reading. If you just skimmed and thumbed me down then whatever. I just get annoyed when people use bad logic to try and prove a point.

I know I'm responding to this late, but I really need to correct a lot of what you said.

Don't worry about it. See below thread.

Eventually justified actually, but yes, I agree there.

Here is where morals get thrown into the mix. I acknowledge that she acted the way she did because she discovered he was using drugs, however, this does not condone her complete disregard for the (arguably noble) intentions of the drug dealing (a crime that only enables self-destruction, a victim-less crime). Motivation is everything- in law cases, but, regrettably, not in social situations. I very much question that she had an affair to protect her children (one of which, she left her uncle to take care of, instead of herself) but just because she was a spiteful bitch.

If you don't understand why someone would rather live in poverty than accept drug money than you seriously have a problem.

I'm a little offended that you question my sanity simply because my morals are different then your own. You think I came to this unorthodox conclusion for ***** and giggles? Still. I can understand that they would do so out of some overly glorified sense of honor (from a survivalist point of view, a ******* stupid action).

Don't worry about the spoilers.
User avatar #101 to #99 - lotrfan (02/26/2014) [-]
Yeah, I realized the spoilers just as I posted it, wasn't really thinking about that while I was writing, so I apologize.

I wouldn't say Walt's noble intentions justify his crimes, but I can see where you're coming from. It is true that Skylar refused to see why Walt was cooking meth. from his point of view, its her being a bitch, but from Skylar's point of view, its just Walt making excuses.
Skyalr cheating for her children's sake is up for interpretation I'll admit. I see it as her unwilling to expose him for his crime but still wanting him away from her and their kids. On the other hand, she definitely was angry, and that played into her decision too. I don't know how far you are, so please specify what you meant by her leaving the kids with her uncle (i assume you meant Hank her brother in law)
Sorry if I offended you, I can see what you mean about survival being more important than morals, and I know that in nature there is nothing more important than survival. However, morality and consciences are what separate us from animals. No matter what you use to try and justify an action, if it is against the law or just morally wrong, it would still be unacceptable. most people would not accept drug money from a loved one if they knew where it came from. You might disagree with Skylar making that decision and not supporting Walt, but at least try to understand that her reaction was pretty normal.

One last thing, I do want to say that I hated her early on but grew to like her later on. Mostly I hated when she was smoking while pregnant. To me that was stupid selfish and unforgivable. Aside from that and her being annoying very early on I really don't understand why people so strongly dislike her.

Thanks for your comment, you brought up really great points by the way, even if they aren't going to change my mind.
User avatar #102 to #101 - witislimited (02/26/2014) [-]
Like I said, it's morals in the mix. The only way to come to the correct answer is to pit morals against morals till the ones that stand in their logical substantiation decide what is correct (I vehemently believe morals can be ******* stupid- but am content to tolerate them provided they have no real world effect effect). I'd prefer to do that then come to the conclusion that "I t's up for interpretation".

I can understand why she did what she did- other then the first point you shot down above, I still think her actions are ******* stupid, and do not befit a creature anatomically capable of thinking critically. If you ask me, that's an insult to human potential.

Apology accepted. I acknowledge you had no intention to do so, thus why I didn't flip my **** . See my above reasoning though- what kind of creature do you have to be to suicide over, again, some glorified idea of honor? I can't understand why people feel more intelligent then animals, or noble, refusing money willingly given by self destructive idiots. You think you're better then my cat because of "honor"? Get ******* real.

This has to wait tomorrow- I gotta go to bed.
User avatar #103 to #102 - lotrfan (02/27/2014) [-]
I wouldn't go so far as to say she's committing suicide by refusing drug money. Yes, She's turning down a wealthy life for herself, but it's not like she won't be able to live. Poverty sucks, but it isn't going to be her death. If she refused to let Walt back into her life, then she'd still have the job Ted gave her, as well as the support of her Sister and brother-in-law. Giving up comfort and wealth for the sake of your own conscience is perfectly reasonable.

There are too many people out there who live in poverty and feel there is no way out but to break some law. Skylar is a little like that I think. If she agreed to let Walt back in to her life, she'd be his accomplice. If she doesn't though she'll live in poverty. It's a tough decision either way. I believe she made the right choice, not wanting Walt's money, you disagree, and that is fine.
User avatar #104 to #103 - witislimited (02/27/2014) [-]
It was an exaggeration, as an example.

Giving up comfort and wealth for the sake of your own conscience is perfectly reasonable.

Agreed, although, again, her conscience is arguably stupid.

Everything here is a mere paraphrase of the last few bits of the argument. I'm going to guess this is the part where we "agree to disagree" and walk off both feeling correct.

"My husband is repeatedly lying to me and won't come clean and tell me anything about what's going on"

"...because I'm totally a trustworthy person."

"How did I know he killed people?... Yeah, great plan... Better my family live a miserable life in borderline poverty..."

If you ask me, I think Walter made a mistake in marrying that bitch. If you can't absolutely, wholeheartedly trust someone (without them betraying your trust) to the end of all that exists, then you shouldn't ******* marry that person.

Uh, I haven't watched the whole series, unfortunately. But I can counter the first point.

Hell, would you tell your wife you're meth cooking just to leave a fortune before you die? ..., because he wanted to gain back her.

He didn't do it to leave a fortune, at least not exactly for the reasons you'd take at face value from that statement. He did it because he loved his family enough that he wanted them to live decently after he died.

But to answer that rhetorical question... Yes. If I can't tell my wife, then I shouldn't have married to begin with.
User avatar #77 to #75 - joekerr (02/11/2014) [-]
Then careful, I spoiled the whole series in that comment!

Yes, I forgot to add the motivation for that ... he wanted to be remembered as a loving and caring husband who incidently left a lot of money behind. He didn't want to sully his Mr Roger image or to "disappoint"*) his wife.

Confessing to his meth production would have destroyed that. Everything was planned to appear normal.

*) I am not native English speaking .... I need a stronger word for that.
User avatar #79 to #77 - witislimited (02/11/2014) [-]
He didn't want to get caught not because it would destroy his reputation but because any money he made for his family would be taken, wasting his efforts. He didn't need to worry about the government doing that because his wife somehow beyond all conceivable logic thought it was a good idea to leave him, (presumably) take the baby, leave his son with her brother and either wasted his money or didn't use it, defeating the purpose of having it.

To rephrase my above argument (again), everything she did was the opposite of what Walter wanted in response to him trying to accomplish his wants. As if she thrives on his pain.

How do you justify something this disgusting?
