Does anyone else think the background looks a bit weird in the avatar Wan sections?

I mean just going by the bits from the trailers and stuff, the background looks all different to the rest of the show. It looks like a watercolour or something, kind of faded and stuff.

It's kind of putting me off.

That's because the background is supposed to resemble ancient Japanese woodblock prints. It will give the whole Wan-story a feel of actually happening 10 000 years ago from the present. I myself personally love it, but i guess tastes differ.

dont wanna be the guy to point it out but
technically roku would have been 1001st avatar if the cycle begins with fire.
avatar 1 was fire, then roku would be 1001. the creators probably didnt think about that when they wrote dialogue

Do you remember, the giant lionturtle talking about time before bending? i actually think the first avatar was some sort of a spirit bender, and he struck a deal with the spirits or bended them to his will to make bending possible.

Orange eyes like his are usually fire nation too. I don't care what he was though, I just want to know the Avatar origin already. Seems you'll be right about fire nation/sun warrior though. Speaking of, anyone else get annoyed at how much Korra uses firebending, as a waterbender originally? I know the Avatar can use all the elements, but she seems to favorite it when it should be the hardest for her

Korra isn't very spiritual, and Firebending doesn't seem to be the most spiritual element out there.

Therefore, to me, it seems like she would take to firebending better because it doesn't take nearly as much spiritual energy.

And to the OP; I think his ideas are at the least very close. I don't think they'll place Wan as a bender, but maybe the first bender of any element. The Sun Civilization placed an emphasis on spirituality toward the sun and the dragons, which were the first fire benders. Thus perhaps Wan was a very spiritual person and was chosen to be the first Avatar, and the first firebender.
I don't know, but the good news is we'll see first hand the entire story next week.

Hour long special!!!

Legend Of Korra Book 2: Wan's statue wel... sun wariors were firebenders. therefore on the lore it says that long before people started to bend elements they bend energy within themselfes. therefore i think wan wasnt from sun wariors.

when someone says thousands times i dont think they mean ti literally (even thou they can) so the number of avatar really isnt the important thing in my opinion.

and finnaly i thought he would be kinda looking similar to (probably) his statue

Legitimate spoiler here. Fire was the first element Wan was given. The lionturtle was the one to give It to him. This makes me think he started the cycle as a Fire Nation.Avatar
