you know what i never got about avatar? how does water, fire or air stop a giant rock hurtling toward you? (aside from bending making no sense in the real world) if an eathbender throw a 500lb boulder at you, i'm pretty sure shooting a little fire at the surface wouldn't do jack shit. nor would shooting air at it or water because unless it's a lake, it has no stopping power. the boulder would just go through the air, through the water and through the fire. logically speaking, all the other benders should have to dodge eathbending projectile attacks, cause that shit isn't going to be slowed down by a little fire.

cool animation though. i'm impressed

Water can cut through rock and steel you know, if it has enough pressure and force

ok that's water. 1 down, now explain to me how a gust of fire or air hitting the surface of it is going to stop it

Well.. air (aka wind) can also stop a rock if its fast and strong enough.... (If a tornado can pull up and destroy houses etc....why not) xD

And when it comes to fire...i dont know, earth pretty much counters fire.

"if it's strong enough" ok i'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that aang could shoot air fast enough to slow down something as massive and heavy as a 500lb boulder traveling at oh... i dunno 40mph. personally that doesn't add up
if he could displace air into the boulder and explode it to bits, i can see how that would actually work but air benders don't displace air, they just move it around.

It's displacing the same as moving? Yeah. It is, plus, it could not destroy the boulder but send it hurdling back towards the sender.
User avatar #350 to #348 - ishouldplayzelda (07/19/2012) [-]
also i said "into" the boulder, meaning that air would have to be removed from it's place and inserted into the inside of the rock. airbending cannot do that

ok then, what would it take in our world to not only stop a 500lb boulder traveling at 40mph through the air, but sent it back the way it came? give me 1 example of a device that exists that is capable of doing that. and just for kicks, let's say it has to be smaller than a volkswagon bug. oh and it can only blow air, so no jet engines or anything that shoots anything other than straight up gaseous air

Does any form of Element bending exist in our world? NO. So really you can't base this on science, and If you've ever watched Tenzin or Aang airbend they can launch some fucking shit with air.

if you're going to use that argument, you might as well say their universe obeys entirely different laws of physics, or that it doesn't have to obey any physical laws at all.

the only other argument that will work is that every single thing in the avatar universe runs on unexplainable magic

< here have this

At some point, with some velocity, air can move rocks. Don't be try to doubt the other elements' strengths
User avatar #359 to #358 - ishouldplayzelda (07/20/2012) [-]
i'm not doubting that. i'm just doubting an airbender could achieve that kind of wind speeds unless they were in the avatar state, which happens semi-rarely

WEll neither earthbenders or airbenders exist. So we can't judge any of this.
