It can be really childish, especially in the first season of Last Airbender.
As you get further into the series, it becomes more mature, and Legend of Korra is entirely matured.

As long as you're not bothered with a lot of kiddish humor, it's a fantastic show, and has lots of epic and intense moments.

I never thought of it as an anime when watching it. Not into anime myself either. It's fucking amazing. I went through a phase where I would pretend I was a waterbender when everyone in my house was asleep.
