well, it did get all four of the seasons that it was billed for.
But Season 2 was rushed because it only started development after the first few season 1 episodes were out, Nick launched season 3 early without advertising it much (because it got leaked on the spanish site), moved the show to the Friday Night Death Slot, midway through season three Nick took it off the air because it wasn't getting the viewers they wanted, cut the funding of season 4 midway through development by roughly an episodes worth, requiring either a clip show episode (what they did) or firing a large chunk of the crew, and generally not respecting the gold they had, instead just airing more Spongebob reruns.
So they were canceled in all but name.

animationhac (12/21/2014) [-] I already knew it was cancelled before but the photo of ria's implied it being cancelled on the actual ending of book 4, least that's where the images used is impling. I've known it was cancelled before however, the pictures to me seems to say that it was cancelled again and forever. When simply it just ended.

AnomynousUser ONLINE (12/21/2014) [-] I'm too lazy to read through all the other comments to see if it's been said, but what would they have written it about? I mean, spirit worlds and those problems have been fleshed out at least somewhat, almost all the elements already had their sub-bending parts put on the front stage, any new villains would probably end up being "just like season X's villain" or something, and the technology was already advanced almost to the point of being caught up to ours IRL. All of that and the fact that Korra was a complete opposite of Aang (older, has boobs, started out with everything but spirit and airbending powers, was more violent, rash, etc.), so what would the new avatar be like?
Sure, there could be a prequel, but could you really give up all those sub-bending elements and tech? That's a lot to give up on, especially since the outcome would be known beforehand.

Look what the did with the Avatar Wan episodes, they were pretty fantastic; there's so many possibilities for the continuation of the show, not necessarily (and actually, preferably not from) Korra's generation.

A great show leaves you wanting more without some cliffhanger, and that's just what this did. Let's just hope the creators' next projects will be as great as this one.

It might take a few years for them to come up with ideas, assuming they aren't busy with something else. Still though, if another network buys the franchise, new writers might have loads of things they want to do. I don't think we've seen the last of it.

Like the horrific death of our mai characters sibing or mentor once we;ve had time to grow to love them. Let them be ripped from us in a way that makes US want to reach out and kill the main villain, make us WANT him/her to die in the same way.

TLA really showed how cool firebending/earthbending villains were, the first two seasons of Korra had waterbending villains, the third had an airbender, and the fourth had a metalbender.
We've had villains who used lightning, villains who used lava, villains who could fly, villains who shot explosions out of their face... we've had the lot. Hell, we've even had THE LITERAL GOD OF CHAOS. There's nothing left to do outside of the Spirit World and even then the Spirit World is a place where you physically are incapable of bending so... it'd be kind of a let-down and is probably why we didn't see much of it in either Aang's or Korra's series.
What is more... how the **** do you top that? It's certainly possible to top the Giant Mecha Monster with the Spirit-Laser-Beam-of-Death. Korra did so by first breaking the spectacle creep and going for a much smaller, more compact story focussing around Amon and then let the spectacle grow from there instead of trying to instantly top the fight with Ozai.
So it's possible... but how would you do it?
Atop that there's the simple fact that unless Korra dies young the next Avatar will be born in a time roughly similar to our own, which would be interesting, but it would also be highly disappointing and it would diminish the sense of fantasy a great deal. What would the music be like? What would the art-style be like? How would bending play into daily life and would it even matter anymore in the face of non-bending technology that would likely, by that point at least, be widespread?
I guess you could try to tell a story about Bending finding it's place in this new world but at the same time that's a really depressing concept to handle, the idea that magic has become obsolete in the face of technology...
Unless the Avatar Universe develops a LOT of depth another series is just not viable.

The value in Azula was about demonstrating the weakness that comes from distrusting people and Azula's generally douche-baggy actions. Ozai was about struggling between the easy way to deal with him and the right way. Amon was about understanding the disparity between those with and without power. Vaatu was about balance. Zaheer was about left-wing extremists and Kuvira was about right-wing extremists.

The biggest benefit of the Avatar universe is it's simplicity but that simplicity doesn't allow for an awful lot of nuance and diversity. It's also a pretty tame universe due to it's audience.
Personally, I'm fine with that being the last we see of the Avatar Universe, because unlike the Simpsons it quit whilst it was ahead.

When the detached spirit weapon exploded I thought the Avatar state Korra died (along with Kuvira). An ending like that would have been ******* insane and it would have made sense that they weren't continuing the universe. I don't know if I would have liked it, but holy **** my jaw ******* dropped. When she slowly appeared being all glowy I thought she was meeting Rava for the last time or be in a situation Aang was in when he technically died at the end of Season 2 of TLA.
I'm still content with the way things ended, though.
