which fighting styles are the other bending styles based on?

Water Tai chi - it's like morning stretching exercises (yoga and relaxing type) and pulling your opponents punches and giving the blows back

Earth Praying mantis - very close combat, solid and uses more on making quick successive blows by not entirely stretching your arms

Fire is like wushu/shaolin kungfu which empasizes on controling your blows and dancing

Wind is Ba Gua Zhang which is about circular movements

Hung gar is praying mantis and also fire bending draws specifically from a northern style of shoalin which emphasizes breathing (hence Iroh and Jong-Jong both emphasising the importance of breathing to Zuko and Aang respectively)
Each martial art is used as an opposite, for example tai chi (or however you want to romantisice it) is based on using your opponents strength making it a more defensive based martial art, where as shoalin is pretty much all about offense with strong punching and kicking moves (tai chi has almost no kicking moves as it upsets your centre of balance) and Ba Gua is based on the premise that if you meet resistance you move away and change direction, where as Hung Gar is rooted in basically being stubborn, with a firm stance that requires you to be rooted and earthed.
I suspect that energy blocking (the thing that Tai Lee and Amon mooks do) is basically the shiatsu and acupuncture converted into a martial art. Dunno about energy bending cause it's been used twice and was taught to Aang by a lion-turtle the size of a small island
