Detective Sokka and the case of Amon
My thoughts on who Amon might be

In Book 2, Azula kills Aang, so Amon is born. But the Katara brings Aang back to life. The spirits are left saying " Well, shit, what do we do?", so they take away his bending, and let him keep his spiritual powers. LoK starts up, and Aang dies, for real this time, so Korra is born. Now the spirits say "Wait fuck, we dun goofed, Amon has all those spiritual powers...", so they give Korra the bending portion. Amon and Korra are both the avatar.
"Well that would mean Amon is 70"
Well, sure. But Iroh, Boomi, and I think Sozin were excellent fighters at an old age.

notmadguy (05/15/2012) [-] Maybe he's just lying about his life and eventually all of the truth will come out in a dramatic ending to a season, I mean hell, Korra hasn't even gone into the avatar state yet. They are saving all of this for an epic moment.
I watch a lot of movies, especially shows, they don't want to make things easy to find out, just like the confusing ass flashbacks that Korra keeps getting... Aang never got any of those flashbacks.
You can't figure this out, just wait for it to happen.

This may just be me, but I'm perfectly content with finding out who he is when it's revealed in the series.

i think he has a connection with koh the face stealer, amon said that he learned to take peoples bending away from a spirit. koh said that him and the avatar would meet again and koh could of meant the avatar, not aang specifically. koh also could of had a motive to teach amon how to take someones bending away, when he meat aang he mentioned that one of the past avatars tried to kill him, he seemed very angry about it to. koh is also the only one who is old enough to remember how to take someones bending away or who else does(lion turtle).

If you or ANYONE payed attention to Amons speech the first time they showed him, he said he and his family lived on a small farm (Why the hell would Aang and Katara live on a farm?) and NONE of them were benders (Aang, katara, and 2 of their 3 kids are benders, so that rules out). Amon also said that his father was killed by a firebender (Aang died of old age), and that the same firebender permanently damaged his face (We already know what Aang and Kataras Non-bending son looks like)

Here's a thought: Amon is simply blocking the brain chuckra, preventing bending until the chuckra is unblocked.

Its on of aangs 3 sons, probably one of the 3 didnt get bending so aang felt bad and he taught Amon how to move like an airbender and everything else he knows

I still believe that it is Aang's second son. Aang could have just thought that he couldn't bend when in fact he gave amon his energybending. Also there is a motive. How would you feel if you were the son of the avatar and all of you family could bend except you. Lastly he could have just lied about being raised on a farm as a means to get supporters.

It's more probable that Amon is just from a Fire Nation territory and is of Fire Nation heritage than that he is a firebender, considering his parents were killed by a firebender.

Guys, I believe that Amon is the son of Sokka and Ty Lee. If you look at this closely you can see that his hands are tan, common skin tone of those from the water tribes. I also don't believe he knows how to energy bend. I believe that he's closing up the chakra gates located in the throat in forehead that deal with lies and illusion. You also have to start questioning the flash backs. Why is Sokka shown while all of Aang's other friends have yet to be revealed like Zuko. You can also see that they're in court with the metal benders serving as either a witness, guards, or lie detectors. You can also see Toph saying, "He lying," to Aang if you can read lips. Also, you can hear Katara say that, "My brother and many of my friends are gone, it's time for your generation to take over.." What killed Sokka? If you look in the flash back you can see Aang's distorted features and you can see him in an uncontrollable fit of rage, going out to find Yakone. He also entered the Avatar state due to rage. I believe that Yakone, who was stated to be a fire bender, killed Sokka. How does that link to Amon? Well, a quote from Amon STATES that his father and mother were both killed by a firebender. It's also stated that Sokka hated benders and only put up with them because his friends and sister were ones. Let's go back to the chakras again. The opening of chakras was utilized by Aang to supposedly control the Avatar state. If you look at chakras you can see that they are the pathways for energy. If they were purposely blocked by lies and illusion, how do you think that person would be able to bend? The idea of chakras could've been passed off to Sokka's son, Amon, and he could've figured out a way to block them, which resulted in the loss of bending. Let's also shoot down the energy bending crap because if we look at it we can see that in some point in the bending itself, a glow appears. If you look you can see that there hasn't been a glow, just a brief pause and a loss of bending.

soerd ONLINE (05/15/2012) [-] as far as chi blocking goes my theory is that ty lee taught the kyoshi warriors who then evolved over the years into some sort of police/task force which was corrupted by amon, kind of like azula did with the dai lee.

Maybe It's Hiroshi Sato because he's obviously smart enough to make those machines that the equalists use and has the money to fund them. In the last episode he may have paid off the referee in order to let the wolfbats win so he can take their bending personally and gain recognition as the man who took their bending away and so he would not take Korra's bending before the final battle like he said in episode 4. I know he was watching the match in ep 6 but he could have easily disappeared. I also don't trust his daughter. My guess is that on guy who avatar aang had trouble with 42 was his father and he wants to take revenge against him by destroying benders. I just can't explain how he moves like that O_o.

Amon is not just a Chi blocker. He is an energy bender. Chi blocking uses the blocking of pressure points and focus areas to stop the flow of chi temporarily and thus stop bending temporarily. Amon does what Aang did to Ozai, hand held on the body for a slightly extended period of time, removal of bending permanently. It's some weird, old kind of bending that deals with internal energy and chi instead of an element.
