I think he wanted to surpas Yakone by not only take over Republic City but the whole world. and even though he is the most powerfull bloodbender in the world (as we know) he was'nt able to take over the world by bloodbending if he was against benders. that is why he wanted to take all bending away, so he could take over the world as the only bender in the world
