**theawesomeguy rolled a random image posted in comment #5799673 at FJ Pony Thread ** If I was a bloodbender, I would make everyone have boners 24/7

For the last time: Earthbenders bend the impurities in steel not the the steel itself.
They can't bend Platinum, because it's too pure and has almost no minerals in it left.
They can't bend iron and therefor not blood. And even if they could bend iron. Have you ever seen a hemoglobin molecule? The iron part of blood is so tiny it's negligible

Metal benders don't bend metal itself.
What they do bend is the "earth element" impurities within the metal, and as a result the metal itself. That's why they can't bend purified titanium in the show, because apparently there are no earth impurities in it.

It's the same with blood bending. Blood benders don't bend blood in general, they only bend the water within it (82% of blood) and as a result the blood bends as well.

So as far as we can tell about the Avatar world, there is no "earth element" inside the iron within the blood, so no. Metal benders cannot blood bend.

Unless you have kidney stones, but that's another story.

NO FOR ***** SAKE. METAL BENDERS DON'T BEND METAL, THEY BEND THE EARTH IMPURITIES INSIDE METAL. STOP ******* POSTING THIS.

metalbenders use the earth impurity in metal to bend it but the more refined the metal like platnum than bending cant be done :)
User avatar #132 - ThatKidYouKnow (06/15/2012) [+] (7 replies)
No, because they bend the earth in the metal. Not the other way around.

Metal benders can't bend metal. They find the impurities in the metal and bent that, shaping the whole piece of metal. That's why they can't bend pure metals like platinum.

NO. I can't believe how often we have to explain this crap.

Couldn't water benders blood bend too with the amount of water in our bodies and blood?
#119 to #117 - anon (06/15/2012) [-]
No this is stupid, what next water benders can suddenly bend Ice too?

You may need this

A significant amount of the human body consists of water so shouldn't water benders be able to "Blood Bend".
User avatar #12 - Loppytaffy (06/14/2012) [-]
No. It's not the metal they bend, it's the inpurities.
Which is why purer metals like Titanium cannot be bent.
#3 - anon (06/14/2012) [-]
No, they don't actually bend metal. They bend the impurities found there. So if it is pure iron then not even Toph could bend it.
User avatar #118 - superjavelin ONLINE (06/15/2012) [-]
I'm guessing no, for the same reason you don't see waterbenders airbending. Just not enough element density in the medium.

Metal Benders bend the ammount of "pure" rock that is left over in refined metal.
They can't bend any pure metal, which is why they can't bend the platinum bots.
Ironically, metal is refined from rock/ore IRL so it would make more sense to bend pure metal.

Lightning benders might have the ability to control someone as they could effect the electric signals going to the brain just something to think about

And air benders could control the air around a person to make them move
#29 to #20 - auesis (06/14/2012) [-]
Firebenders can't do that unless they're directly next to the person, because lightning generation comes from the build-up of energy in the firebender's body. They can't affect charge on another body without direct redirection (after generation). It's just a charge, release or redirect mechanic. It would be nigh-on impossible to get a beneficial effect out of somehow managing to redirect charges through direct contact, considering that there are literally billions of signals launching around the brain every second. By the time you've managed to redirect one signal, another has been launched and your change becomes irrelevant, not to mention almost completely random (you would have no real way of knowing what changes do what, and you need to redirect thousands, perhaps millions at once to make a noticeable temporary effect on a person's behaviour, coupled with the fact that your redirection needs to be so accurate that not even a brain surgeon would be able to comprehend what's going on. This is within a few seconds).

The airbending manoeuvre just seems pretty standard, but it will be very shaky. You'll probably just end up chucking them around with no real control over precise movement. Bloodbending has a more accurate and definitive approach, as you literally control the body itself, but the airbending method is trying to accurately influence a body with outside forces. That's EXTREMELY difficult, and probably pointless in battle, as by the time you have your movements thought out, the target will have recovered and perhaps retaliated.

Yes, but it wouldn't be very powerful. Have you ever been thrown into the wall by a nail?

I know bro, it took three nails to pin me.

Let's follow your logic and hopefully you'll find your mistake.

If soil is wet, are water benders able to earth bend?

(Pic sort of related)
#75 to #62 - skullbash (06/15/2012) [-]
well katara bended a water and rock slurry so yes

Nope. Afraid not.

*Spoilers below*

Metal benders are merely Earth benders who are able to detect the earth impurities in a metal and manipulate them at will. This was first shown when Toph 'single handedly developed' metal-bending after being captured in TLA.

Metals like platinum, in the show, are rather close to pure, thus the reason the Equalists are trying to use platinum mechas against benders and why Korra was trapped inside a platinum box for the best part of one episode.

So, in short, no. It would be awesome, but if it where that easy, there would be a LOT more blood-benders in the world.
