I keep reading about how much the Korra finale sucks because 'it's a cheap Deus Ex Machina' or something. Because I'm a whiny bitch, here's an argument with a non-existent jerk:
"THE ENDING TO THE LEGEND OF KORRA IS **** AND A COP-OUT!!!"
"BECAUSE AANG CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND GAVE HER THE ABILITY TO ENERGY BEND!!!"
No, he gave her the ability to go into the Avatar state. The spirits are directly connected to Korra's Avatar abilities. Doesn't the lack of green aura make that obvious?
"BUT SHE ENERGY BENDED HER POWERS BACK!!!"
Amon took away bending by using bloodbending, NOT energybending. And remember those flashbacks of Aang and Yakone? Yakone bloodbended Aang, who overpowered it by going into the Avatar state. This shows the effects of bloodbending can be overpowered by the Avatar state. So when Korra unlocked the state, she overpowered the bloodbending that blocked her powers.
"BUT THEN HOW COULD SHE AIRBEND WHEN HER BENDING WAS BLOCKED???"
Ok, I'll give you half of that one. This was only hinted at back in TLA. The likely answer is that Amon's bloodbending was so good, he could close up chakra-paths, which blocks bending. Back in TLA, they explained that bending is done via chakra highways: When open, you can bend. When closed, you can't. Or something along those lines. For Korra, Amon damaged the chakra-points that were open. Her airbending was unharmed (due to that chakra not being open), and she could still perform airbending. I'm shaky on how the chakra works on Avatar, so don't hold me to this. Hell, most of this paragraph wasn't established in the show, and is just speculation. We'll have to wait until season 2 to have things cleared up.
"YEAH BUT SHE GAVE PEOPLE THEIR ENDING BACK!!!"
Okay, NOW you're getting somewhere, hypothetical ******* . While the 'airbending' paragraph right above was half speculation and the other half were known rules, THIS one is mostly speculation. My best guess is that, while in the avatar state, Korra could nullify bloodbending effects very nearby (Within arms reach). Also, while the method does look the same as energy bending, so does Amon's pose. No reason why Korra can't take a similar pose.
"WHAT DO YOU KNOW? THE ENDING WAS DULL!!!"
TLA season 2 finale wasn't a giant ending, either. Not compared to the other 2 season finales, anyway. You know what it DID do? Set up some **** for the next season. Hopefully, just like LoK.
If I messed up, feel free to let me know down below.
