the country was essentially founded on atheist views, saying that you could be any religion you chose, or not have one. there was nothing to do with God until recently in our history

Freedom is not the same as atheism. Most of the Framers were Christian.

I should have phrased that better. I meant that they disregarded religion when the constitution was written and the country was established. essentially, it was atheist in theory, but the law really meant that anything could be practiced, and they didn't have to belong to any specific religion
