I don't deny assholes being atheists, what I'm saying is a normal atheist has no reason to be an asshole. Not believing in any religion doesn't dictate you to be an asshole, but just because others choose to believe a religion, doesn't dictate you be an asshole towards them.

Nah, it doesn't work that way. Assholes and atheists/believers aren't mutually exclusive groups. Also, atheists/believers do mock. But they aren't necesarilly assholes just because they mock. Nor all assholes mock either, there are other things they can do.

Not trying to be a smartass, but I just don't like the "don't put me in the same sack, I'm different" kind of comments. There are atheists who are assholes and others who aren't, the problem is making people learn that those two concepts don't necesarilly overlap.

A lot of the hostility could be a reaction to perceived or actual discrimination. When the majority of people are vehemently opposed to your choices, it gets very easy to just start lashing out preemptively because you're convinced they'll inevitably do the same when they find out.

It's also a reaction to the irrational and, some might say, delusional beliefs of everyone around you simply because that's what they were taught to believe. When you really begin thinking for yourself and realize that everyone else still believes what you did, and that some of those people are powerful and capable of making all of society conform to their values, it's both scary and infuriating.

Personally, I reject societally-enforced moral code. I do however, support creating societal values. The difference being, the former is an obsolete model of a "hive-conscience", basically a model of enforced conformism, whereas the latter has a societal ethical-moral code that supports following it, but does nothing to prevent variation.
If that makes sense. Still, I doubt people could agree with each other enough to create my vision of an ideal world.

Well, imagine that your friend starts attending a weekly meeting and giving money to a company that all worship a guy called Steve. In return for this, Steve has been said to give him and others like him eternal happiness when they die. It's just natural to think "Why would you believe this? You've never seen Steve. You don't know of anyone who has. I am an atheist who goes to a private christian school due to a move and a really shitty school zone in the U.S. Funny enough, they teach and preach at my school that christians and christian beliefs are the minority in our country and face the most harassment in American society when all day long I am harassed and being called a satan lover (I've even got witch before) by them. What about the story when god sent two angels down to Sodom to talk to the only good man there. and when they got there the town's people tried to rape them? I have to agree that many people practice an extremely arrogant sect of Christianity. A lot of people like to say they're Christian so that they can go out and do a little bit of charity work, and then gush about how "good" of people they are because they went out and helped feed the homeless for a whole two hours. (Sarcasm on the whole two hours part) Which isn't what it's about. IMO, it's fucking disgusting to run around and talk about how great your faith is, and trying to tell everyone that they'd have a good life if they'd accept God into their life as well. There are a lot of people who do that, and you're completely right to say that it's arrogant as hell. What really sucks is that those are the only groups of religious people that will ever be seen, because they're the only ones who are fucking self-righteous enough to run around and try to get media attention.
