But see.... religious people tend to have reasons for talking about their religion. Christianity is, at it's heart, a way to comfort people, mainly through community. Talking about God is how they make themselves feel better about themselves and the world. (I'd like to stress that this is not a bad thing. Needing comfort does not make you weak, it means you're human.)

Atheists, on the other hand.... They don't believe in anything. Or, rather, they firmly believe that there is no God. There is no community. There is no moral code. There is no jihad, no crusades, no passion. Atheists are just people who disagree with all these other people.

There's nothing wrong with that, either. There's nothing wrong with anything so long as it doesn't hurt anyone, I don't think. Just saying words.

(Also, because I figure someone will thumb me down because they think me Christian/Atheist, I don't really have a clear definition of what I believe, but it's neither of those.)

Atheists, contradicting what you write, believe in reason. And just like a chistian is an atheist about most of the worlds gods, an atheist have simply added another one to the long list of gods which we don't believe in.

And trying to claim that morals and religion is linked to any greater extent is simply false... We can by todays moral standards deem many of the passages in the bible or the qu'ran as immoral. Unless we had a moral sense cut of from and independent of relgion we would not be able to do that.

(Also, I find it humorous how you say that atheists firmly believe there is no god. Atheists also firmly believe there is no santa, no tooth fairy, no teapot orbiting around mars, no flying spagetthi monster, just like most other reasonable people. They just chose to take their non-believing one step further)

he's saying that with christianity, non believers are sent to hell, so people think they're being nice when they try to convert people, because they'd feel bad if people went to hell.

On the other hand, athiests don't think anything bad happens when people die, yet going around trying to convert people anyways. I can appreciate that some athiests are just trying to do so to save other people time from going to church and stuff, but going to church a few times won't kill you.

People on FunnyJunk are generally very aggressive towards anyone, atheist or not, who implies that religion is not a good thing, spouting the same quotes, namely "Why are you bashing religion OP" and " You shouldn't be bashing religion OP".

First off, Why exactly shouldn't he or anyone "bash" religion? It's nothing special, it's just something that someone believes, it should not have any special rules. For example if I were to randomly post "I think that anime and avatar/airbending is shit" then I would get a very negative response for simply expressing my opinion (which is what a religious person is doing by stating that they are religious).

The misconception is that people believe that religion is exempt from criticism, which is completely untrue and unjust.
