Take 60 Minutes to Think

There will be many saying "Oh well there really aren't that many people that shove it down your throat", for both sides, and let's think about this.
Theists, yes, it is shoved down everyone's throat who is born into a religious family, which is about 80% of the country. It's just pushed a little at a time, with church, conversation, and peer pressure from your religious community to participate. Imagine if there was absolutely no imposing religion at all for the first 15 years of someone's life, to the time the mind begins to question.
Atheists, yes, there are many, though it seems to generate less outside Funnyjunk discussions, who ridicule religion without giving too much reasoning. You chose to think independently of religion, but the big numbers develop a high level of ignorance to atheist thought and reasoning, so in order to defend your small population at about 20% of the country today, it's time to open civil discourse rather.

Yeah, well, we're also born without manners and comprehension of music, litterature, and science, yet nobody objects to that indoctrination...

Is it just me, or does this **** get boring to read after so many times?

I don't give a **** if you're religious or not, nor does anyone else. If you do, get over it.

We aren't born knowing math or science, language or philosophy either

Let's just get rid of all indoctrinated morals because we weren't born with them. Morality and goodness isn't real either, so let's stop teaching it.

I swear fundamentalist atheists are way worse than fundamentalist theists because at least the theists don't act as if they've achieved enlightenment through their own "superior intellect".

inb4 red thumbs, butthurt atheists, jubilant theists etc.

I'm just tired of all these ******* "Huuuuuur I haff al teh ansurs" posts.

"I don't push my atheism on anyone else"
says the asshole who insists on implying that parents who teach their children religion are brainwashing. Yes. I see no way that he could possibly be pushing his atheism on others. what a prick.

This is why I hate atheists. Not because I'm religious by any means, but because they act so smug and insist that they are right and their belief system is right. My belief system is entangles between agnosticism, deism, and apatheism, but I do not argue nor suggest that my belief system is correct. If you're an atheist, be an atheist but don't condemn or mock other peoples religions because they are just as unproveable as yours.

I won't argue semantics with you but religion and belief system can often be interchangeable, although I concede to you that they are not one and the same. In the last line of your comment you did say atheism is as unproveable as any other religion, which l took to mean that you are one of the many ignorant people who like to argue that atheism is a religion when it is not. If that is not what you meant then good. You are also correct that science cannot prove or disprove the existence of god, although personally from looking at what science knows and has discovered I don't believe one exists. You are correct again in saying that atheism does in fact address one belief (although I'm fairly certain that the anon, who is me, said that in my earlier response). Atheists indeed have a belief that god does not exist, although I would argue that it is not such a silly belief as the one held by some religious people that their personal religions god is the one true god and all the others are fake. It seems as though we agree on some things, I was simply hoping to correct you if you held an erroneous idea that atheism is a religion.

atheists say they don't push their "religion" on other people but every other post is about atheism . How about we all stfu about it and keep your religious views to yourself. if i put up a post about Christianity i'd probably get 500 dislikes

Religion and schooling shouldn't be mixed, you go to school to learn factual things, how to be literate and perform arithmetic, not learn about God. If you want to incorporate god into schooling then enroll in a private religious academy. Your science classes shouldn't regard the topic of religion.

The irony is this quote is being used to push atheism on others.

this post is stupid because when you're born you don't know anything until you grow up and decide for yourself. Also every religion may have killed in the past but human-kind has killed each other over a lot less so i don't think anyone should use that as a reason for being atheist
User avatar #156 to #147 - laelaps (04/30/2013) [-]
This guy sounds so dumb. According to him how you were born is how you should stay. So we should have no religion because we weren't born with it, we should have no sexuality because again not born with it (stfu gays), we should have no higher intelligence because we are not born with it. Growing up means being presented the facts and making a responsible decision. Not just regressing to whatever beliefs you had when you were born.

But if someone insist that chocolate is really just fairy poop, and won't shut up about it, wouldn't you want to tell them how idiotic they are?

I don't see a lot of Atheists denying people rights or Atheist extremists blowing things up.

Just sayin'

I just have to say, just because you're introduced to it growing up, doesn't mean it's wrong.
Parents try to get their kids to like and believe what they do to make a connection with their children.
It's only when you abandon your kids for not having your beliefs is when they're ******* up, and even then it's the parents fault not the religion.

I am an Atheists and i have 0 respect for thous 420 yoloswag atheists who are atheists purely because they want to look "cool" and "different" and when you ask them why they don't believe in god their answer is "because **** god" and they can't even name a single scientist or a famous atheist.

See how I see it is to go ahead and believe in God, because then if there is a God you will probably go to Heaven. If there isn't and there is nothing, you don't lose anything!! It is kinda a win, win. :P

If you're a good person and strive for justice, in the sense as Socrates' dialogues generally follow, you shouldn't have to worry whether or not you do, for if a god is so closed minded or jealous or picky that he won't allow just and honorable people into a sacred realm because they had differing beliefs, I wouldn't find that afterlife very pleasant at all

I do believe, my kind and gentle sir, that this could be very easily debatable from both sides. On one side; we have no idea what goes through a baby's brain. You do lose most of your memory as time continues. This is just a quick little theory tossed out that may or (probably) isn't true but I'm speaking in the possibility, just as there is a possibility God exists since there is no direct evidence he does not. Now, speaking in intellectual theoretical conversations, people could be born more specifically as agnostic rather then atheist. An atheist has decided that there is no god or superior being (supernaturally speaking) in the universe. I do agree that a child probably isn't born knowing about God (pretty sure considering parents have to teach their kids) but the child isn't born knowing for a fact that there isn't a God. The child, to put it as simply as possible, simply doesn't give a **** at the poitn and God is its own mother.
